The "Whatever" Thread

Good deal. A degree will get your foot in a lot of doors....

Ride your bike up my way someday - I'll go for a putt with you -

It'll have to warm up a bit before I work up the cajones to ride that far.:D

We oughta meet up some time though, I'd like to pick your brain about a few things.

Treated myself to a trip to the shooting range this morning (I'll credit you all for putting the thought in my head). I wanted to give the Glock 19 I have a fair shake and get off the fence about whether or not I want to keep it.

"On paper" I'm on board. It fills a need (perceived or real I'm not sure) in my line up, it's reliable, it's paid for, and they're common as Hydrogen, so parts and mags are easy to come by.

The cons for me are the ergos (grip angle and girth are un-natural for me) and the accuracy hasn't been up to my expectations.

Well the verdict is in and it gets to stay. What I found after shooting 200 rounds through it today was I'm still not in love with the ergos. However I realized that every time I've ever fired it it's been along side a 1911. That is an unfair comparison, whether outright or sub-conscious, in my mind.
My 1911's feel like they we're made for my hands and I don't think anyone would argue a Glock is in the same league as a Les Baer in terms of accuracy.

So today I left the 1911s in the safe and just shot the Glock. It is sufficiently accurate and the balance/feel was greatly improved with the addition of a Streamlight TRL-2. I do need to have some better sights installed. I don't like the sight picture the factory sights offer.

Anytime, buddy! I would like to get myself a KLR - one of my hardcore connie buddies bought one and is doing cross country trips with it.....

Hi YC -

The glock definitely has a different grip-to-bore angle than the 1911's that I have experience with - but the Glocks are great pieces and deserve their due, just not for everyone.

I have done more training with my 23 than any other piece, but I carry 1911 as I like cocked and locked better than a striker fired pistol with a trigger safety - just my own preference.

I like the Streamlight TLR - mine is the TLR 1 - no laser - I love the momentary on switch and the ergonomics of the light. I have mine on my XD/M 5.25 at home, I even cut out the foam in the case to accommodate the light.

Going to try to find time to work on my website this week. I need to reduce the number of models I offer that are too similar.

5 years ago on today`s date.

Another one of my favorite pictures from 5 years ago, at Starved Rock.

We were expecting terrible weather here today. Forecast was calling for severe thunderstorms an straight line winds. They sent all the kids home from school at noon. I cancelled my afternoon appointments and went home, and...

Nothing. Just a little rain so far. Go figure.

I was in south Chicago near Midway and thought of mqqn today.

I didn't stop to see if they had used ones.

I just found out we need a new furnace, there goes my knife/gun budget for awhile. I'm not concerned, more relieved that the technician found the problem before it caused serious problems to our health and or home.

Thought I needed one last year, the one company I had out for estimates told me I did. Then I had the company out that installed it 11 years ago come out for a second estimate. Turned out it just needed about $300 of parts and labor, works like new. I'll never call the first company again.

my furnace and A/C need to be replaced but I keep having a friend come out and do little fixes to keep it running. He said he was done though and it needed to be replaced lol. going to give me about a unbeatable price but still not super excited about spending the monies!

Went to the new range that I was planning on joining for a free trial. Not joining, way too restrictive! It's geared more towards bullseye target shooting, go to the firing line, load pistol. On range officers command fire one cylinder or magazine, put firearm down. When everyone is done shooting, walk to target to inspect hits. Go back to firing line and start over.
Then I was told I could not shoot my snub nose .38, nothing under 3" barrel. Said those were not good for target shooting. No shit, I did not get it for target shooting!

They won't be in business long.

Ya still gotta practice!...DAs.
The MC ruined me on ranges.Too many rules and other peps to worry about.:thumbdn:
I only shoot when I go to the mountains, but I don't have to worry about others and only need to follow the no brainer and self preservation safety rules.

Oh yeah, I filed my taxes today!
Now I need to get a cutout made of my next JK custom and send it to John.

I also have my eye on a couple of guns.
One is a short barreled Marlin 336 and the other is an Iver Johnson 22, that's a clone of the Walther PPK/S 22.
I had the same IJ back in the 80s and loved it so this one might have to come home with me, but I need a hunting gun more so a Marlin lever gun will have to be gotten first.
