The "Whatever" Thread

Went through my website and got rid of a couple that I never got any orders for, still need to review sales on a few more.

60 degrees here today!

We hit 67 - I got out my roto-tiller and started getting it ready for gardening! I also bucket washed old yeller - it was FILTHY, but now it's clean.

I am a front-tine man.

I inherited my step-father's old 5hp tiller. It's a tradition; I know he is happy that I am still using it and keeping it up.

It was one of his pride and joys, so I keep using it.

I know the rear tine tillers are easier on the shoulders though...

A traditionalist! Bought mine at a garage sale for $45 & tortured myself happily for years with it. Once I tilled up an orange scaled Gerber folder that I had lost in the garden 1-1/2 years earlier! (sometimes stainless is good!).
Now I am on a very small property with near total shade and confine my efforts to watching my wife struggle to work a raised bed garden in a 75% shade area.

Rear tine tillers are amazing lol. I use to use front tine but after expierencing the wonders and ease of rear tine tillers I switched quickly lol. Much easier on the back and shoulders.

But can you make that rear tine tiller actually bury itself?
Can you climb a stone wall with it?
Can you make it's use a punishment for errant teens?
No, I say give me front tines or give me death (and a hoe, spade and fork.)

Well guys. Looks like im buying a new lawn mower this year. My Kubota has finally gave up the ghost and with only 500 hours on it I doubt ill buy another one.
The linkage that engages the blades has given me trouble since day one and has even been replaced by Kubota under warranty. Now its having the same issue again, but now its not warrantied.
It would cost $800 to have the problem fixed outright, but im not spending that kind of money for the mower just to last another mowing season.

Im leaning hard toward a Bad Boy Mower made up in Arkansas. All American made for a few thousand less than the equivalent Kubota model.

With an 8 acre yard and a mower with a 60" deck it takes me 6 hours to get the grass cut. I usually do 3 hours on Saturday, then 3 more on Sunday.

I also have a tractor with a bush hog attached to the pto, but it goes slower than zero turn mower and I have to make big wide turns with the tractor.

I think my next investment should be some fencing and about a dozen goats...

yes the rear tine tillers can bury themselves. crazy deep. You just need the counter rotating tines. it's awesome. also doesn't tear you up near as bad. If want to punish a teenager just leave it in forward w/o the counter rotating gear and it will drag their ass all over the place lol. in standard forward gear I bet you the rear time would climb right up over a rock wall also :)

But when you no longer feel like getting dog walked lol get you a counter rotating rear tine tiller :) My next purchase is going to be a tractor lmao!

Well gents, I am stoked.
I went to the local pawn shop to further examine the 16" barreled Marlin 336 I saw a couple of weeks ago and there was a longer barreled 336 next to it so I asked to see it as I was having reservations about the 16" barrel and loss of velocity.(Love the idea of the short barrel for packing up hill and dale, but not the loss of power.)

Upon examining the other I see a saddle ring, a straight stock and NO CROSS BOLT SAFETY and it has a 20" barrel vs the standard 22".
Seeing no blueing wear or wood wear and a shinny pit free bore I said I'll take it!

I had to put it on layaway needing to save funds for a brake job unfortunately.:(

Any ways, I get home and out of curiosity decided to see if I could find out any info on it and lo and behold there is a Marlin Forum out there in the web!

Turns out it's a Texan model made in 1969.
Pretty cool find and I believe I got a good deal on it at 380 smackers.

Cant wait to get it out and shoot it.

Oh yeah...I live in an apartment so no need for a tiller or mower.:p
Though in my youth I did find myself behind both from time yo time.;)

Busy weekend coming up. Saturday is Hayley's 13th birthday and Becky is having a surprise party for her. Sunday we are going to Angie's house in Indiana for a cookout.

That's a great deal on a Texan 336! Well done! Be sure to take that damned noisy saddle ring off before you go hunting!

You lucky dog. Color me jealous.

Lots of wind but no snow here yet.

Almost 50°F yesterday. I took this pic when I got home from a walk along the Fox.

Those are my daylilies sprouting already.

I might be in Mokena on business tomorrow if the snow isn't too bad, John. I'll let you know later.
