Sure does feel like hunting weather with the temp hovering around 16 this morning.

I've been taking care of the wife after her accident. She had surgery on her neck to fuse several broken vertebrae together last Monday. She is recovering quickly but in a lot of pain with the neck as well as four broken ribs, punctured lung and numerous cuts and bruises.

Our truck is totaled so just waiting on the insurance to finalize that part of this horrible incident.

The little POS that hit her now claims she was merging and cut him off (they estimate he was going about 90). He dodged the insurance companies for three days and finally gave his "statement". Thankfully there were 6 witnesses that all said he was driving way too fast and hit her.

The worst part of this obviously is seeing your wife in pain and also thinking about what could have happened. The fact that the person that did it would try and lie his way out of being responsible only makes things that much worse.
I hope and pray that she heals completely from this. I can't tell you how mad I am at the weasel that hit her.
Another interview today and I'm also waiting to hear back on wether or not I made the list for a CNC Machinists course being offered to Veterans in January.
Good luck Myke. That sounds like a great career path.

One of our lawyers is a former prosecutor in the county where the accident occurred and he was able to access this guys criminal records. Turns out he has multiple convictions for speeding, reckless driving, etc. I hope for the sake of everyone on the roads that this incident ends with him never being behind the wheel again.

Also, thanks again to all you guys who extended prayers and well-wishes. This probably seems like a small thing to do but when you are on the receiving end, it means so very much. This is truly a great "community" and the fact that most of us have never even met face to face makes it all the more remarkable. If someone would have told me five years ago that I would soon have friends that I met on the internet, I would have said that will never happen...and I would have been very, very wrong.

I could not have said it better. It means a lot to know that people care. It seems like a lot of the "regulars" seem to be disappearing, but the ones that are still here are the best.

Met a young man at the Mexican restaurant. He asked me what knife I was carrying. I had a benchmade that I got in the box of goodies pass around. He was like ohh that is so awesome I can't afford stuff like that. I said young man your out here working hard trying to make it in life Just Go Ahead and keep it! I told him if you run into some financial troubles or have the opportunity to trade up go for it. He couldn't believe it lol. It was about a 100 dollar knife. He seems like a very good kid. I see him up here every week working hard. I told him one day once he has made his fortune make sure to pass the love of blades on to another young man in his community.

My wife didn't understand why I gave it to him but thought it was very nice. Rereading this I sound very old lol. I'm only 33! Damn I need to hang out with younger people I guess lol.

All the best to the suffering and the anxious in our midst - you all above writing and sharing. Good luck Myke - be well Mrs. Outdoorsfan and you too outdoorsfan. Take care of yourself. And thanks Grunt for bringing a bit of good faith and generosity to our world. We all benefit from an act of kindness.

Well done Grunt!!! Hopefully you have just opened his eyes to a great community as well as giving him a great tool.

You are the man, Grunt Sir.

You exemplify what my friends here are all about.

Thanks for doing that for that young man. I am sure you just propagated our family forward.

Thanks Sir!

best

Sam, sounds like you had a pretty good weekend.

Sean, best wishes for a full recovery for your wife. You folks are in my thoughts.

Mykel, good luck on the job front.

Good going, grunt! You may never know how much of a positive impact that act of generosity had on that guy's life.

I did tell him to join bladeforums. He is only 17 right now but I told him to sign up and check out the JK forum. Hopefully he will but who knows with young kids. they got more important stuff to do than play on the intrawebs lol, like working and chasing girls. We try to eat up there once a week or so and hopefully I'll see him up there next week to see how he is liking it.

Don't surprise me a bit, you are a good man GS.
But then, we can say that for the majority of us here.
I hope the youngster really appreciates the gesture and pays it forward when he can.

Good stuff Grunt.

Good on you, GS! It's a great feeling to give something away to someone you feel will really appreciate it.

That's very cool GS. I had a similar experience last year, I invited my wife's cousin and his son to my hunting club. We were all sitting around and I noticed his 16 year old had a nice looking fixed blade on his hip and told him the Micarta scales looked very cool. He said they weren't Micarta. He had been getting into knife making and couldn't afford Micarta so he made his own scales with construction paper and some kind of glue or epoxy. I was really impressed with his first handmade knife and we got to talking and eventually I started showing some of the ones I brought starting with my JK Appalachia special which he went nuts over and I think really fueled his desire for knife making.! He fondled that knife like it was the holy grail..lol !

Then he noticed some of the ZT's in my bag, I brought a 300, a 560, and a 566. He was flipping them and saying how sometime he was going to get some flippers when he had more money. I happened to have a fairly new Kershaw Cryo in my pocket so I took it out and handed it to him, he flipped it a couple times and said he loved the size, he asked how much they were, I said don't worry about it just take that one. The ear to ear smile on his face was well worth the $30 I spent on it..:D
