there is a green flipping frenzy going on

Really? And who decides that? I see more Americans grumble about secondary market practices than Filipinos. There's also a matter of a "clique" that dictates opinions here on BF and it's always the usual suspects when it comes to particular topics.
Yep. Only thing I'm not sure of is whether those who are doing the grumbling are really angry or just jealous. People only complain when capitalism works against them, not when it works for them.

The problem is that "Capitalism" is used to defend unsavoury practices a lot of the time. Some are fine with it, others are not. People will complain when a system works against them but conversely, people will also defend a system, no matter how many are complaining, as long as it benefits them. I haven't ever heard anyone complain about something that benefits him.

Agreed. But then I defy you to name an economic system that doesn't contain unsavory practices. ;)

I too was in much better financially when I ordered it but in the last month and a half, I have accumulated some uncovered and unexpected bills that put a hurt on me, close to $3000. I have been selling everything collected on another forum to raise funds including all my alox sak's, some other saks like the swisschamps, all my LM juice's as well as other LM and Victorinox MT's, etc. I still have some to sell but about 80% of my collection has been sold and still need more to sell so I will receive my two tomorrow and will have to sell them at this point but I will try to keep one for now. If I can get others to buy the other items I need to go then I might be able to keep one of them. Unfortunately, I never had $3000 worth of stuff in my small and modest collection so I am going from a small collector to a user with just a couple if I can get the other items sold. I have a couple more new Swisschamps with the sos kits, a couple of Spydies and that is about it.

Let me also add that most of the items at least 90% were sold for less than I paid or dang close to it but when shipping estimates and paypal fees kick in, I know I didnt break even let alone make any kind of profit. With sak's and mt's, you have to price them cheaper than Amazon or Ebay if you want to sell them to raise funds or no one will buy them. Sometimes it feels like I am giving them away but just have to say heck with it and sell it as it might even be less if I put the sak's and mt's on Ebay cause of their ridiculous fees now too. :)

Yep. I'd rather mark my knives down and sell them on the Exchange than get robbed by eBay and PayPal. At least that way I'm able to keep them in the family, so to speak. And compared to eBay and PayPal fees, the cost of Gold Membership is a bargain if you're going to sell even a modest amount of knives.

I don't really begrudge the sellers seeing an opportunity and taking it. When I saw how fast they were selling, I almost put my blue one up for sale. What I don't understand is why so many people were willing to pay so much money for these knives. While I love my blue M390 version, I really hesitated to pay $180 for it. When I got it, I felt I got my monies worth, but $300, no way. The way to stop the flippers is to stop agreeing to pay $100 over retail.

What about this? Like what happened with the blue para.

Can't you indulge us then? After all we have those "if you can only have one knife..." threads every month or so, maybe we can have our fun too. :D

And the brown one, I think, too? It seems to be continually coming back - though those are exclusives, not sprints.

On your second point, count on it. :D

That's the real problem all right. We get our knickers in a twist over a few folks who flip knives to make a small profit when the real problem lies thousands of miles away. Manufacturers can lessen the impact by maintaining sufficient supply of their most popular products to keep up with demand.

It's real easy to blame the bad guys, but the good guys have a role to play in this as well.

Wait, no more sprints? By definition, sprints are strictly limited in the number made. Although it hasn't always been the case, most sprints in recent years sell out quickly and trade up dramatically. Should Spyderco not do limited-number runs of special knives?

Are they going to make more of these like the blue ones? How many were actually produced? I heard 600 and 800 pieces so not sure!

Just got mine and wow are they sweet. My pic doesnt do them justice as they are flawless! Dang, I wish I could keep them! :(

That's easier said than done, especially when the herd instinct takes over. If you think paying $100 over retail is ridiculous, you ain't seen nothin' yet. Spend a little time checking out Hinderer XM pricing on the Exchange. Then you'll know what the phrase "out of all proportion to reality" really means. ;)

Actually, the best way to stop the flippers is to become an educated buyer. Take time to find out what's available for the kind of money you're willing to spend. Then, if a knife is overpriced, you'll realize it and you'll be able to spend your money much more wisely elsewhere.

I find myself agreeing with this. There is no knife in the world that I "must" have. When I believe the seller's markup is excessive, I find another knife to spend my money on. Besides there's lights and guns that vie for my money's attention. :)

this is nothing more than supply and demand forces going on. not enough supply for the demand...price rises. if people weren't willing to pay the prices and/or the supply wasn't less than the demand....... it wouldn't happen.

i missed on the blue ones, but i won't pay those prices. hence i don't get one. someone else is willing to pay so they get one. i will never understand why people get so upset by this.

Yep...:D

And there's nothing anybody can say to make you understand. OTOH, there's nothing you can say to convince us to change our opinion too.

But you don't care about our opinions, do you? So why even try? You should just attribute it to a difference of opinion. ;)

no one, including myself said y'all had to like it. i didn't even say i like it myself. it is what it is, and will never ever change, no matter how many regulations or laws, or ethical rules you put in place. it's basic economics, and wasn't just created by some ivy league super smarts, to make all our lives miserable. we are all a part of it a bit and all guilty that it exists. it's supply and demand forces. i appreciate your insight and feedback, thanks for your thoughts on that matter.

i do care about other's opinions or i wouldn't read and think about them, and respond politely. a little bit unfair for you to assume you know how i think, don't ya' think?
