Traditional "Holy Grail" Knife: What's Your Pick?

At least it gives us something to think (dream) about...

I understand

You want a blade with some jimping?

While I dislike the term 'grail' and all it implies, there is one I'd love to have.

I'm a simple man, no need for scores of blades. I'll take these two:

Well my last Grail knife was a GEC Yellow Rose Furtaker and guess what... I got it!!! last week and boy is it about the nicest knife I have bought. F&F is amazing. Now I need more GEC maybe a half congress or a barlow. I am a sucker for warnies and sheep's foot blades and wild colors.

Firstly I must say I'm hugely impressed by many of the knives shown on this thread, I particularly like the examples made by Tony, Reese, and Ken, love the stockman's and that cattle knife, truly wonderful .

Here's a few pics of a knife made by Stan Shaw in Sheffield, engraved by Simon Lytton.

Several years ago I asked Stan to make me something special, not really for using, a one off, large, a gold red abalone scaled exhibition knife, after a long wait it finally arrived, immaculate fit and finish, chunky Culpepper sourced 1/8" abalone scales that have so much colour, wonderful fileworked backsprings and blades, milled brass liners, Stan's such a skilled fellow, he's done an incredible job, so eye catching. Simon's engraving is extraordinary and adds a final finishing touch.

Delighted you like the knife Elliott.

I'ts hard to tell from the pic, there are seven blades at one end, eight at the other, all walk and talk perfectly.

Wow! I would hope sometime in the future you would entertain starting a thread on this knife with a complete set of pictures and specs!

Congrats to you and Mr Shaw/Mr Lytton and thanks for sharing that beauty,

Thank you Mick. It is a pleasure being able to take a look at that beautiful knife.

Wow! What does that beauty weigh?

Thanks for the up-beat comments guys.

The knife weighs in at 1 pound 12 1/4 ounces, pretty heavy. The 9crt (375) gold sheet and wire used for the bars and bolsters weighed about 6 1/2 oz.

A better pic that shows Simon's engraving.

Thanks Mick. I would say that that is too heavy to carry, but it is spectacular!

Puts The Great Exhibition Norfolk in the shade:D
