Traditional Knives & Slingshots

Let me just publicly apologize for all the disparaging things I said about the USPS today. It was undeserved and I was wrong.

You should hear all the disparaging things I said about the Royal Mail today! 🤬🤣👍

Our regular mail carrier is on vacation this week, and I unloaded a bunch of extra tomatoes and cucumbers from my garden on his unwary substitute today. Seems like postmen can’t catch a break around here…

Good for you, I know a lot of posties :) Our regular pair are pretty good, but parcels are often sent out by a different outfit - ParcelForce - Or 'ParcelFarce' as they are known! Talking of parcels, I had a parcel to send to another member today. There are no restrictions on sending knives from the UK, but mailing them is a different matter, even if you have the rules printed out in your hand  So I usually record them as "slipjoints" ;) There were several slipjoints in the parcel, but there was also a Wasp Uniphoxx slingshot. "Oh I don't think you're allowed to send catapults to America..." No basis whatsoever for saying that, but two of them spent 10 minutes trying to find a rule that forbade it, and failing, they marked the parcel down to be examined by Customs anyway

I took my sling to the farm yesterday and tried it out a bit. I was close in both planes at once a few times.

I've eaten half of my gumdrop ammo. It isn't that cheap and it isn't good for my waistline or my blood sugar, so I'll concentrate on the little slingshot and the clay beads.

I knocked this up last night...test firing today..🤞
Nice work
I have made a few of those and they are a blast!

Pretty steep learning curve and I still can't hit much with any consistency but still a very worthwhile endeavor.

It's fun to just hurl some rocks!
I've got as far as watching some interesting YouTube videos! :D

It was sealed in that plastic bag, so I think maybe not home-made.
It's a nice one.
That's good Jer, hopefully the rubber is ok then 😎👍

I regularly see simple Chinese-made slingshots for sale on market stalls here. They look like they have been turned on a lathe. They only cost a Pound or two. The rubber is cheap and doesn't last long though. Really just a child's toy. I'll try and remember to buy one to get a pic 👍

This one looks like it was sawn out and had its edges eased. I have no idea how long it's been in what kind of storage, but the bands are fine so far.
I don't think it's terribly old, because I don't remember doubled bands like these from olden times.

Bands can last a couple of decades if stored right apparently Jer 👍 I remember finding my old Black Widow, and the tubes were absolutely perished. After being stretched a few times, those old tubes could deteriorate pretty quickly ☹️👍
