Have fun Jon :)
My dad taught me how to cut rubber strips from car tire tubes, and look for oak forks.

These days I’m lazy and just order online.

Headed out to the woods today, so I'll be putting a slingshot in my bag ;) Probably the Scout LT Crazy Canuck Crazy Canuck kindly gifted me :)

I am NOT about to start spending money on things I don’t really need just because of nostalgia, or because they seem cool, or because I’m being egged on by a bunch of guys who have nothing better to do than discuss their ridiculous pastime on some internet forum!

Oh, wait….
Well, I just ordered a half dozen 1mm flat bands from Amazon, and they are supposed to arrive tomorrow. If I finish my list of projects for the weekend, it’s off to the woods to find a suitable branch, I guess…

My thought really was that I could bring a band with me next time I go camping. Making a slingshot would be something I could do with my knife while I am sitting there not catching fish.

You all owe 8 bucks.

I remember my dad telling me they used bicycle inner tubes, but I also remember trying that as a kid and not finding them very stretchy. I’m sure I was just doing something wrong. I actually saved an old inner tube a few years back with the idea of trying again as an older (but arguably not much wiser or more mature) person. Let me go see if I didn’t throw it away last time I cleaned the shed…

For the first sling shot he made for me, he cut the rubber strips very long - the longer the better he said. So long that I had trouble using it for a while as a boy (must have been 6 or 7). So he used it mostly himself :)

20 years ago, I was hanging around a tractor repair place. The guys there said the tubes wouldn’t make decent slingshot. I took an old one to try and they were right. They said something to the effect of, 20 years prior to that about is when they had the change.

Innertubes are now made of a synthetic rubber that doesn't stretch. Just buy the bands or tubes. Unless someone has a readily available source of suitable rubber that I haven't thought of.

Good move Tom :) Hope you get some good ones, they vary a lot in terms of the rubber, and there are lots of different types. Sounds like you're going to have some fun

Over here, inner tubes were very different in the 60's to what they were in the 70's. I remember going all over to find some of the old inner tubing for a fishing project (making a 'swing-tip' bite indicator) when I was about 12, and I must have walked 5 miles before I found some. It was pink, and slim, about the diameter of these tubes (a gift from Crazy Canuck Crazy Canuck ), but made of old-fashioned rubber. I asked a mate for a modern bicycle inner tube to make some 'Ranger bands', but I've not tried using it on slingshots

Sounds like my dad! 😂
Felt like I owed you guys a newer photo.

Good advice! :) They're cheap, and last a long time :) A friend gave me some Theraband from the hospital he works at, but it's the pink stuff

Had some slingshot practice while walking in the woods today :)

Back behind our circle is a stormwater pond with some woods. I enjoy going back there for some stump shooting. 5 minute walk from the front door :)

Was a little warm out, and I was getting eaten alive by the skeeters, but had a fun hour or so back there today.

Great looking place to slip away to and simply relax

Thank you Jack. I set this one up with TTF to try it out. I've come to the conclusion that I like OTT the best so it'll be getting changed back to OTT most likely before long.
It's convenient to be able to do that with the Occularis plugs :) I've only tried TTF with one of my Occularis models, but like yourself I prefer OTT (though I have a couple of other slingshots set up for TTF)
