Traditional knives, traditional storage

I would like to know as well, I'd go get one if they're decent. My nearest HF is about 45 minutes away.
joeradza joeradza and David - There is quite a lot of information on the internet about these chests. Folks buy them and then do a few things to "tweak" the quality. Seems you often need to do some sanding on the drawers to get the tolerances right for smooth sliding. Often the drawers may serve a little better if they are reinforced a little. There are many of them being used for this purpose.

I had the Sam’s club version before I bought my first Gerstner International, they are ok, but mine I let the veneer on the sides dry out and crack. Good for the purpose it served though, mine laster a good 8 years or so.

Thanks, Fodderwing Fodderwing , I'll have to make the trip and pick one up, I don't mind tweaking them a little. It would sure beat my current system of most of my folders laying on one corner of my crafting/drawing table. My vintage knives are in a old vynil travel shoe shine kit, but its less than ideal as there basically piled onto each other.

When i met the girl who has now been my wife for the last 31 years, the morning after the first time she spent the night at my house she needed a pair of clean socks, so she opened my sock drawer to get a pair and commented “holy cow you have a lot of knives! Let’s go to the flea market and get you a case!”

We did, I had 98 knives that day, that’s what started me down the path to 600 knives and 7 chests. I remind her all the time that this is all her fault.

Nothing wrong with knives in a sock drawer my friend!
Excellent!!

Guys,
Watch that Green Felt! - I remember discussions about Knives Rusting sitting in those drawers- I was talking to a Friend in the States the other day- said xactly the same thing - all his knives were starting to speckle side that sat on the Felt!

everything nit is stored away in cigar boxes. my users go in a cigar box as well, but who am i kidding theyre "users" that go back in the tube never having really been used mostly . only the few with out tubes/boxes are actual users.

Does anyone have experience with this one from Harbor Freight?

The HFT box does the job fine for the price. I've had mine going on 3 years, and agree about the felt. Not sure if it's the material or the adhesive used, but did notice some (easily removed) slight discoloration on the bolsters of one or two knives early on. Remedied by covering the felt with some of those blue paper shop towels where I have knives laying down. I'll get around to buying some cork sheets on of these days. :p

One thing to be mindful of - I learned the hard way - it's easy to pull the drawers out too far and spill your precious contents...they're shorter than they seem. To me, at least.:oops:

Thanks for the "heads up" Duncan. I had not heard that and will keep an eye on it.

The absolute coolest system I have seen (in another thread) was a very large map storage cabinet. I can't recall the forum member who had it but it was beautiful and would handle a very large collection. I've never seen another one.

I still haven't found my ideal cabinet, but like a rare knife, the hunt is part of the fun.
This is my current situation. A small cabinet for general storage with boxes, fixed blades, accessories, and a few folders. The knives are in boxes lined with foam/rubber? that I get from Michael's Craft Stores. Oh, and the ubiquitous cigar box.

Looks like a pretty good temporary solution, Alan!:thumbsup::thumbsup: Do the boxes themselves come from Michael's, or just the lining? And I've been trying to figure out what the green knives and the white knives in one box are; they don't look like knives I remember you posting. After some partially-successful zooming, I'm going to ask (with hopefulness), "Are those knives featuring baseball players??" Like cutlery versions of baseball cards?
