Traditional knives, traditional storage

I guess I’ve officially become a “collector” and I’m quickly running out of drawer space so I thought I’d stash my users in a cigar box on top of the dresser. A buddy at work gave me this box that has a shelf. I cut the shelf down and it’s a wonderful $0 storage solution. I wouldn’t put your safe queens in it but it’s fantastic for anything that gets pocket time.

I found some acrylic plastic jewelry cases on eBay ... like having my knives accessible and the clear drawers allow me to see what's in each drawer from a distance. Seem pretty tough as well ...

I started by storing my collection in wood display cases. After a while the stack grew large enough to make it a pain to find any one knife by re-stacking the cases. A good fiend in the antique busyness found this large antique filing cabinet for me. It will house additional knives for a long time. Storing knife related books is more of a problem, but the antique stacking bookcase I just found is helping out. It will provide room for additional books for a while.

That's excellent

I thought I’d posted this here before, but I guess it was a different storage thread. I store my knives in this old Dayton parts cabinet.

I lined the drawers with some tool chest drawer liner (it came in a roll, and I cut it to fit the drawers).

On top of the chest, I keep a cigar box with the lid removed, also lined with tool box drawer liner. I use this as a staging area of sorts. I place knives in the box after I carry them, then after a few have accumulated, I wipe them down, oil them and put ‘em away.

Old Pike Sharpening Stones box converted to knife storage with addition of dividers and felt. Top drawer high-end 15s (Mr. CC SFOs and Beer Scouts) with lower drawer containing 15 Boys knives, stainless 15s, a 73, a 77, an Alox, a Laguiole, and my edc Beer Scout...keep a couple packs of desiccant in farthest back drawers.

That filing-cabinet is not only practical, but a nice piece of decor in itself

I need friends like yours, or was that fiends....:D?

Moved recently, and m'collection is still literally wrapped up, in tubes and some plastic boxes, awkward to access. Formerly it was all over the place, at one stage I had 60 knives on a coffee table... visitors were starting to act strangely...not much space for drinks either .

I'd like to get something like that cabinet, but here in Scandiland, people tend to throw out everything every 10 years or so and finding old furniture (that's not vastly overpriced) is a possible lifetime quest;) You never know though...

I’m curious, do the drawers in that cabinet come all the way out (or, do they easily come all the way out)? I looked at a more industrial flat filing cabinet a while back that I thought might be good for knives, but the drawers didn’t come out, and several inches at the back of each drawer was difficult to access.

I like this setup a lot. It's great.

Yes, they are made to slide right out. I line the bottom with archival material.

Yep...kind of looks like a TC jumped trays:)

Yes, the little fellow is out of place. When I started collecting I had everything organized by pattern. Somewhere along the way they started to get placed by purchase date. I will have to do some sorting and organizing at some point.
