two legged snake problems in the woods

This will probably open up a can of worms.

1. Guns are made to kill things, and I don't like to killing things. Now I'm going to contradict myself some when I say this I do own bows & crossbows, I collect swords and other period weapons and have trained period fighting styles (think of it as western martial arts.) But, to me there is a skill and an art to use these and use them effectivly--any idiot can use a gun

What a crock of shiite, this media brainwashed attitude is the reason that we will lose our gun rights, it is inevitable as the sun coming up tomorrow. It boggles my mind that anyone would be able to draw a distinction between a sword and a handgun yet here we have it in black and white. Chris

Oh, by the way, we have less than half the shootings corrected for population than in the States. We ALSO have far less murders overall corrected for population.
Guess we're doing better than you guys in some ways(economically too:thumbup:).

We can change that... Let us give you most of the population of the inner cities of the United States, those from New Orleans, Memphis, Montgomery, Atlanta, LA, East St. Louis, Chicago, DC, etc. and you'll have the higher murder rates. You're demographics will change too. Canada will be much less homogenous.

Canada would make a great state.

Bare Rib: Licensing guns like we license cars is not exactly the same thing unless you mean we can carry our gun into any state with that same license just like we can travel to any state with one driver's license...but somehow I don't think you would agree with that.

David E implied what I consider the greatest reason for dispensing with the onerous laws in obtaining a handgun - The Bill of Rights says nothing about hunting, nothing about modes of tranportation (cars), but does specifically gives an individual right (as do all the Amendments to the Constitution) that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Anyway, a case will be coming to the Supreme Court next year regarding the District of Columbia's complete ban on all guns. I feel hopefull that with the present composition of the Court we should see the Second Amendment re-afirmed as an individual right that cannot be abrogated by local or state laws.

That's the funniest one yet. We're NOT homogenous at all.
What's with this weird idea that Canada is the land of only white people and socialism and PC crap everywhere? Not the way it is at all.
LOTS of Black folk here, Natives, Arabs, Pakistanis, an ever incresing number of Asian folk. We love our guns and hunting(at least the same proportion as in the US), have plenty of people who don't like gayness, abortion, whales, whatever.
Where's the homogenous nation I was supposed to see?
Sounds from you post like you feel there is a racial nature to crime; narrow-sighted explanations for crime like that avoid any real issues.
Does removing guns remove crime? No.
Does removing an ethnic group reduce crime? No, and removing them is a crime too.

2. I dislike handguns more than other types of firearms as handguns (at least the vast majority) are designed to kill people, and I don't think that there is a need for the average citizen to be able to own handguns.

Now I say all this being very firearm educated and not ignorance. I come from a family of hunters and my father is a retired federal agent. I grew-up with guns, learning: safety, responsibility, identification, and how to shoot.

David E - I hope this squelched your curiosity. If you or anyone else have any further questions just let me know. I am more than happy to have intellegent discussions on most any topic.

Cheers

Sir, your hypocrisy is more than mildly sickening.

You don't think I and my fellow Americans should own handguns, but by your own admission you train with swords. You say handguns are for killing, what do you think swords were made for, weeding the garden? Every time you train with your swords in your "period" methods, you are training to kill a human being in a "period" way. So I am to believe that you think it is okay for you to have your weaons to train to kill, but I am not to be allowed mine?

I can think of several names for your type of person, but I will not reffer to them out of respect for the mods.

Too many Americans have paid the highest price for the liberties we enjoy to tollerate this kind of elitist and brainless bleating. The second amendment is what makes us different than the rest of the world. Take your swords and go play Lord Of the Rings if you will, but don't dare speak against my, or any Americans right to own any handgun we desire. A handgun is a viable means of self defence for Americans who can not wield a sword A five foot two 70 year old widow living alone is not a good candidate for using a broadsword against a intruder. But a handgun will give her the self defence and thus the right of self destiny she deserves. As well as a man defending his family out in the woods againt not so nice people that tend to go in serch of victims.

You claim that you are firearm savy. By your own statements I doubt that. If you think any idiot can use a handgun, lets go out to the local police range so I can see how well you do on a qualifing course. If any idiot can use a handgun, why do people spend so much time practicing marksmenship?

It sounds like you need to pack up and go to England. they don't like guns there either.

I find the entire direction of your post offensive.

That depends on your definition of ""LOTS of"".

Comparatively speaking, ya'll are homogenous, mostly of European descent.

Arab, African and Asian descent is roughly 6%....... COMBINED.

I'll try once more to lighten it up.

I was changing a ruined tire with a corral spike sticking out of the sidewall, far into a 4WD ranch road. Having no room to pull off to the side, I had it jacked up in the middle of the road. The guy who ran cattle there happened by so I apologized for holding him up yet he responded by offering to help saying "No trouble at all. This is a bad place for tires. In fact, I've had a flat every day this week. Every single day except Saturday". "Must have been your lucky day", I said. He answered, "Nope. Saturday I had two". :D Regards, ss.

Got any good stories?

Sounds like some teenaged metalheads bought a copy of the Necronomicon at Barnes & Noble and read it after taking too much acid. I'm familiar with a variety of cultures that use animal sacrifice in their rituals . . . but none of them do anything like that. Sounds like a scene from a Bob Larson novel. ;)

Damn Deadites.

I think we can take the moral of this Christmas tale to heart, Shop smart...shop S Mart :p

Didn't work last time it was tried.:D

Hey that was Benedict Arnold's bright idea! Besides when we got there and everyone was talking French, well... Besides, it was cold! And... and we bought Alaska from the Ruskies later anyway. So we have cold now for those that want it. We should have bought Vancouver. That place is beautiful!

Codger :)
