Upcoming Northwoods #54

If and when you do get something just a bit bigger, I'll be interested in hearing if/how the #25 holds up. I know they're not for everyone, but I think they're way cool, almost more so in comparison with their bigger brethren-- the foreshortened proportions.

Speaking of bigger brethren, good night there's some beautiful bone here:

The 2 on the far right and especially the 2nd one in from the far right are amazing! If I knew for sure I could get that one or one that looked pretty dang close to it I would be dipping into my savings I'm afraid lol. My other half checks the savings statements so that would be fun but so worth it I'm thinking! ;)

Those two, and especially that one, caught my eye as well.

These knives are on the big side of big for me, but I love knowing such bone is even possible. I can't wait to see some of these in others' pictures, and what else Northwoods and GEC has up their shared sleeves.... ;)

Okay, I'm at a dead end now...

The cashmere looks really purdy, but the rough cut ain't no slouch either (no, I won't get both, you enablers). Which one of the two would look the most like the bone I have on my #25? That bone singlehandedly brought me to the hell of traditionals... and I still can't name it.

So, which one is the most similar to the bone used on the #25?

You'll of course want to hear from Derrick/okbohn, but from the pictures the Roughcut Bone looks like the same material, finished the same way, as on my #25 Bullet Jack. The cashmere bone is beautiful, but has a smooth, polished finish unlike that of the Bullet Jacks.

To be honest, it would look like the bone on the #25 is a perfect midway between the rough cut and cashmere...

Thanks for your answers Pertinux and Boggs. It looks like I will have a decision to make.

Actually P is correct.........I just wanted to start......besides I'm not going to fight with a "girly" that like knives she could be right...................

That is the one thing I don't like about this particular design also. 3.5" is pretty much my limit with traditional knives at least. Anything bigger than that and I can't fit it in my watch pocket. I do love that bone though and if I could for sure get that second one in I would make an exception I think lol.

The rough cut bone is exactly the same. It got labeled wrong on the Bullet Jack, but by the time I caught it it was already out there. :)

Is the rough cut bone flush with the bolsters? Does anyone have a picture showing it from above?

I got one picked out at Derricks place (KSF) but I wanted to share these with you all. the build quality is awesome, GEC put a little extra time into these ones. The bone is really smooth but grippy, the colors are very extensive and I took one picture with flash and one without so you could see the variations.

The knife itself is solid, feels food in the hand with a tremendous snap. Thicker blades ground to a very keen angle.

Derrick, could you describe the difference between the Calico and the Cashmere bone?

I don't think I have seen the Calico bone on these yet. To my recollection, they look very similar. Here is the real difference. Calico bone is dyed that way intentionally by GEC, the Cashmere bone was a dying accident that I loved and said, "Just keep going!" :)

Seems like some of the best inventions are discovered by accident not just with knives but everything lol.

Derrick, the camel bone is awesome! I love the variety of color and overall look of the bone. Count me in for at least one of those beauties!
