Ups and Downs of PP Friends and Family

You're not getting it. PayPal had no obligation to the 'sellers' that received payment for goods through F&F. In PayPal's eyes, they were not Sellers, they were 'crooks' that broke PayPal's Terms&Agreement. The Sellers that used G&S in Balls thread got their money back from PayPal, as they followed the rules and payed the freaking 3% for the Seller Protection..
I'm not a big fan of PayPal, but they did the right thing there. Also, if you think that PayPal has any saying in what a bank can do or can not do, you have a lot of things to learn..

Seller Protection for Merchants.
We know selling online securely is a challenge for merchants. Our Seller Protection Policy will protect your online sales, minimize claims and chargebacks and help prevent merchant fraud. Go ahead, set up shop. We've got your back.

You wouldn't think that your friends and family would treat you like that.
PP and the banks have certain agreements that allow for a working relationship. This includes use of credit cards and bank accounts. Without these agreements you would have to physically go to PP and give them the money.

Both a buyer and a seller can play the angles. He may have sharply reduced his price Now his ad reads FF or add 3%. You might both recognize each other's feedback stellar history and everybody wins money wise. A buyer can request a 'discount' equal to a 'net' to the seller and the buyer gains an advantage. Price can be as listed including fees. I believe if no mention is made about fees the seller is assumed to cover them. Angles Angles.

Question I have is ,

Can a buyer cause a seller to get spooked if his listing says 'fees included'
And a buyer offers to pay via friends and family (full price) doing so because then the seller gains more $ from the sale.

My sense says all buyers who buy something from a foreign country is foolish

to not use GS.
But for CONUS deals the question implies IMHO , Nothing except a kind gesture.

Paying for goods via FF is fraud.

The even more idiotic 'discreet FF' in ads is beyond contempt.

Further more, if you are greedy enough to pay via FF, dont come bitching, when you are not protected by PP G&S - you deserve all you get.

The FF/discreet FF tells me all I need to know about a seller.

This guy cannot be serious, can he??
Just to be safe....ignore.
Hard to say. I don't even understand the argument. If I don't buy insurance, can I still collect moneys if I get ripped off? It's only fair, isn't it?

"friends and family" is a nice option that PayPal offers for sending gifts of money to friends and family. If it keeps being abused by individuals buying and selling goods, I wouldn't blame PP if they discontinued it. What a shame.

How true Rey.
Used FF the other day......sent my son $300 just because. He’s my son.
Buy something?? GS.....period.

Despite what payment has been used, G&S or FF, MO or check..you can get screwed by unscrupulous people. Some of these forms of payment leave you some recourse, others do not. Your choice if you like to roll the dice.
IF you get screwed using the wrong payment, it doesn't make it right by any stretch of the imagination. SPEAK UP. You WILL get shit for your poor choice.
Better to get some shit and let the community know than not. It's a jagged little pill to swallow, but lets save each other from these asshats.

My final thought on this matter is, if you receive a payment and don't ship your end or ship something other than what is agreed upon?

My head is spinning reading this thread, what is the op saying?

It's fairly straightforward for me: I only accept payment through PayPal G&S, and I only buy from people who ask for G&S (except for Gary Graley, who is an old-fashioned check kind of guy!). If I see a person asking for F&F (or G&S plus an extra fee, almost invariably higher than what PayPal actual charges), I usually put them on ignore so I won't have to run into them ever again. The ignore list is a beautiful thing.

Simple. As the mod said. Inside a trader/collector community scammers become sharkbait. I for one decide if I need 'insurance', signatures, GS protection, and everyone who themselves use understandings about transacting business using PayPal lend to the ways and means being a buyer or seller comes to that end.
FF or GS for a forum purchase is only going to help decide one side of the coin from coming up or some neg outcomes being warded away. So, PP gets filthy rich across the board. I'd like to think using BF and being 'a kind' of people we might reach a level of trust for it and at some point.

I can imagine the Balls incident as a 'false flag' or being turned into something to reinforce how much we need protection from fraud and scammers. Do we? And if we didn't Watch, PP, the Banks and even BF will agree, PP GS ........ONLY.

CALL ME suspiciously up to no good, ignore as well. If I use FF to say I trust a seller. If I use FF to put extra $ in someone's pocket? I like it.

One can choose to use PP or not.

PP FF is fraud.

NB as for trust - check GBU.

It's not just about insurance against fraud or lack of trust. I use "goods and services" to buy goods and services because I agreed to those terms when I created a PayPal account. If I want to put extra $ in someone's pocket, I'll add it from my own pocket not by cheating Paypal.

Yep and I believe that two guys here well known and doing business forego extra money in asking price or what is netted for PP's sake. And I believe no regular guy with good feedback wants that extra that payPal TAKES. Ooops coerces.

I never ask a buyer to pay fees. How can a buyer be responsible for fees? That's not right. It's the seller's responsibility to pay those. I'm new to Paypal, just having opened an account after many years of not having one.

I do have a question though: I noticed on the F and F option, before you send the money, there is a little box that asks if you are paying for goods and services. What is that supposed to be used for? Wouldn't you just use regular G and S if you were buying something?

They probably dump that data and measure how much it's happening. Because of course they know it's happening. Maybe at some point when the cost to them reaches X dollars they pull the pin. The could also use it in the event of problematic buyers/sellers/transactions.

That makes good sense; thank you! I have been wondering about that since I saw it.
