Vantage "Pro" s30v!

Where can I see the new '09 Buck knives because I can't pull up any new ones on the website.

Willpower is overrated. Our banks and government aren't fiscally responsible, why should we be? Buy toys, stimulate the economy. Be a good citizen, buy knives, ammo, guns, oh yeah, and beer. Drive Nancy Pelosie nuts. It's for the American way dammit. And then go camping to avoid the phone nazi's. Maybe I should have had a couple less beer's tonight!
LOL.
Yeah well i've been doing my part to stimulate the economy.
I've bought more knives in the last 6 months than i did in the previous 10 years!
But i am going to cool off buying for a while, this new Buck plus 2 others as-yet-undetermined knives.
Actually i need to buy a new tent/sleeping bag/camping gear etc so its not like i won't be stimulating the economy, just in other ways.
Also i have a few knife projects (blade blanks etc) that i'm working on so as i complete each one it will be like getting a new knife!
:D

It's pay day... my retirement check is already credited - my wife's paycheck will be in within minutes. I sold some tools this month - I need a new Buck... thought about a 'poorish man's Sebbie', a 171 or 172, for some time. Then this thread and the $75 MSRP 347 Vantage Pro in S30V - even looks like the 172's blade, except for the 347's flipper. Now I have to wait for the 347... love the looks of the G10 scales, too. Hurry up, Buck... let's get this thing delvered - before I have to squander my few sheckles for household stuff - or fuel - or food.

I saw a Bucklite Max on the Bay last night. And, I got my weekly Friday update from Knifecenter that I'm still backordered...maybe next week.

tholiver, tents and sleeping bags are for wussy's. Go to the survival forum, all you need is a poncho and wool shirt. Make a fire with your bow, bake a few bugs and your good! I use gas and a match, bring deer steaks and beer. But it's not as much fun that way. Ok it is, but I don't feel as good about myself after! :-)

Vantage pro is a great knife (saw it today at the shop). hollow grind (i think), liner lock, S30V blade -fliper (extremely sharp), g-10 handle with steel liners, low ride clip...and that perfect polish of all parts...and so light...deffinitelly a MUST BUY for me.

What i don't like:

No bronze washers (Bantam has them...Why they are not here??)

I just received notification from KnifeCenter that my two Vantages (Pro & Avid) are shipping today. Good News.

Me too!

My Buck Vantage Pro, and other stuff accumulated during the wait, shipped today from KC. Waaa Hooo! Excited.

Knifecenter must have had enough pre-orders to exhaust their recently delivered supply of Avid and Pro series Vantages - when I checked yesterday, the Avids were still in stock, but the Pro's still said "delayed new product" and didn't show as being in stock.

Now I jsut checked, and both the Avid and Pro series knives show as "delayed new product" and appear to be out of stock!

UPS man came this afternoon bearing gifts.

I've got to play with them some before commenting but first impressions are living up to my expectations. I LIKE IT!!!

It is bigger than I had in mind though. Here is a poor picture but will give a size comparison to two similar bucks at least in size.

So I've been playing with the Pro. Very fast & smooth action. If you give a little sling with you wrist as you using the index finger on the flipper, its as fast as anything with AO or faster.

Fit and Finish on the Pro is excellent. The liner lock comes over and covers the first third of the blade's back. Very solid lock up. No wiggle. I love the low ride clip with tip up carry. This knife is very light and thin for the rest of its dimensions. I think this is a sure fire winner at its sub-$50 price point.

Now the fit and finish on the Avid is not as good. The blade locks up with a slight cant to the right (shown). The liner lock migrates to center on the blade but lock up is just as tight as the Pro. Also, grind lines are visuable on the blade. I like the scale on this knife. It does not have Buck on the blade as the Pro does, but on the emblem (shown). The Sandvik steel is sharper than the S30V by a little. Smaller carbines I'm guessing. So, I expect this blade's performance to appeal to guys that like to keep their knife razor sharp.

I guess I'm disappointed with the Avid's blade lock up angle but very interested in the steel performance. I am going to see if I can tighten the tension on the blade bushing a little latter.

All in All, the pro is a outstanding knife with an excellent feel in the hand, light weight and fast deployment. I like the blade geometry but have not cut anything yet, but will today. I'd definately recommend the Pro and have a feeling my Avid's issues are not a general indictment of the knife.

Thanks Flatlander, I can't wait to get my hands on a pro. Does the pro have the same washers as the avid? I remember reading that they don't use PB washers.:(
