Wade Barnett or vwb563@yahoo.com

I like to send the buyer the DC # as soon as I can just as a way to reassure him that I'm not ripping him off. Since most of my sales have been to people I've never dealt with before I think it just makes them feel better about dealing with a stranger.

Yep.
I've always thought if you have enough time to get on here and put up a "for sale" thread, edit it etc....
then you have the 5 seconds it takes to send a tracking# IMO

On the tracking info/delivery confirmation issue, I always insist with the seller to forward me that information, not because I distrust the seller, but because I like to know where my stuff is. I travel a lot and I live in a condo with several front desk attendants who sign for my packages when I am away. Knowing when my order was delivered also lets me know who was on duty that day, should something get "misplaced".

Hey guys. I am out of town at a wedding, but here is the email I sent with the confirmation # questioning Mr. Barnett's actions. I did receive an email a little while ago(3 hours). The knife landed today, and he cancelled the dispute and did apologize for any inconvenience. I really think that he has some serious issues with even considering another's perspective or situation. I also attached his reply email to my questioning. For all who are here to help, I thank you dearly. For all those who know me, and supported me, I thank you whole heartedly. For everyone else who pitched in on either side of this, thank you for your perspective and thoughts.

I shipped it Wednesday, I told you I would try to get it out Monday but I am busy. You only sent me the paypal on Sunday. I was contacted by Paypal, you opened a dispute? Completely uncalled for and ridiculous. You need to explain yourself immediately. The tracking number for the package is 0309 0330 0001 4931 2428. Paypal has deducted money from my bank account based on your actions. You need to think and wait for communication before you make rash decisions. I will be posting this on Bladeforums.

you said you would try for monday. if not monday then it for sure it should have shipped out tuesday. it should be here by now but it is not! i did attempt to contact you. i waited 24 hrs with no response until i opened the dispute. put yourself in my shoes. i paid you for an item that should have arrived by now. im only protecting myself. when it arrives i will cancell the dispute immediately and you will have your money. it may be completely uncalled for and ridiculous from your standpoint but not from mine! do what ever you want, post what ever you want. makes no difference to me! im as honest as anyone you will ever meet and i am only protecting my money until i get the item that you say you sent! all i know is i havent seen anything from you yet!,,thanks for understanding,,,virgil.

A person with that much lack of trust shouldn't be purchasing knives from the for sale forums. He should stick with purchasing new knives so that he won't have to be so worried about being ripped off.

^^^^ right there is the correct attitude. Jeebus, just send the stinking DC# and be done with it. Sure, the guy over reacted, but, to cover your self you have to provide as much info as possible. I am not perfect when it comes to this stuff, and, I have had nothing but good dealings with 007, but, you gotta get those DC#s out. Otherwise, why did you purchase it

Just my $0.02

I have shipped MANY a parcel on my way out of town, not to have 'net access for a day or two......starting a dispute with Paypal after basically a few hours IS idiotic! :barf:

Hopefully this fellow will never venture into the realm of custom knives and have to wait on an order for a year or two! :jerkit:

the tracking number is mostly for the seller should the package go missing and the need for a claim arises.

at least with usps, you're not really going to get much info when the package is in transit.

i normally send the tracking info, but sometimes i forget.

Sometimes I forget too. I know USPS tracking is mostly worthless (but they seem to be doing better lately.... maybe it's just me). It's just easier to send it and it makes people feel better b/c they have something that says "hey the package shipped and the seller/trader is doing their due diligence " ......... perhaps I'm completely in the wrong on this. :o

Again, everyone is going to do what they want....just my thoughts.

Spiralsrchitect, I think you're right when you say it shows that someone is doing their duty. Most trades and exchange, of not all of them, are based purely on trust until the product arrives. It is nice to have something physical that shows something I being done.

USPS does not have tracking. It has Delivery Confirmation. It lets you know in writing that a package has arrived. It is not meant to show where the package is en route.

no, you're not wrong at all.

when asked, i always provide the number. sometimes i remember to do it on my own, sometimes i just forget.

i always ship priority, which normally takes 2-4 days. by the time a buyer/trader asks for the number, often the package has already arrived and is waiting at home.

i dont use the delivery and/or signature confirmation, so never get the paper back.

and paypal calls the assigned number a tracking number. is that not what usps calls it?

and on the usps website, you can enter the number to see if the package has arrived. is it a confirmation number rather than tracking like other services provide?

I always use delivery confirmation for my own peace of mind.

Once the package shows up as having been delivered, I e-mail the buyer to verify that the package was delivered to the correct address and that they are satisfied that the knife is as I described it.

Just my preference.

I don't know what PayPal number you mean, unless it's a Delivery Confirmation you get electronically, rather than putting a sticker on the package.

Tracking like UPS uses follows the item from point to point. USPS Deliv. Conf. lets you know when it's delivered: it only "tracks" start and finish.

I am quite happy with USPS DC: it lets you know when the item enters the USPS system (acceptance), whenever it is sorted in a USPS facility along the way, and when it is received by the destination PO. It is as close to tracking as it gets.

No - you're wrong.

USPS Delivery Confirmation lets you know when the Item "has been accepted into the USPS System" or if you use Click-N-Ship from home the DC only states the item "is expected to be accepted into the System".

From there the Shipper will receive no further updates whatsoever.

The next message should appear once the item has been delivered stating "your item has reached its destination".

The only USPS shipping method to provide true Point to Point Tracking is Express Mail.
