USPS does not have tracking. It has Delivery Confirmation. It lets you know in writing that a package has arrived. It is not meant to show where the package is en route.

Exactly what my PO man says. Weird thing about it is when I print my on-line labels through ebay, the DC# automatically is sent to the buyer and ebay has a record of it next to your transaction and it clearly calls it a tracking #, no wonder people are confused. He also told me they do not have international tracking though you can insure a International package via priority international.

A few days ago I talked to a lady from paypal and she basically told me the only way to protect myself as a seller was to use a service with a real tracking number via Fedex, DHL or UPS. I asked what about DC# via USPS, she said thats not good enough. I believe it, last XMAS, I bought my gpa some audiobooks and never got them. I sent the seller a mesg and he then provided me with the DC#. Well, they delivered it, but to another fricken house in the city with a similar street name as mine and different zipcode(didnt know exact addy since they only say it was delivered to so and so's zipcode). Needless to say, they delivered it to the wrong house and by the time I noticed it was too late. I could of filed a dispute but it was not the sellers fault so I ate it.

No - you're wrong.

USPS Delivery Confirmation lets you know when the Item "has been accepted into the USPS System" or if you use Click-N-Ship from home the DC only states the item "is expected to be accepted into the System".

From there the Shipper will receive no further updates whatsoever.

The next message should appear once the item has been delivered stating "your item has reached its destination".

The only USPS shipping method to provide true Point to Point Tracking is Express Mail.

Buddy, I buy 10-20 knives a month, so I should know.

Easy, gents! You're both right:D In theory, the delivery confirmation is only supposed to track 2 points, start and finish. In application, you get every scan along the way. If you live in a podunk town like I do, you'll get told it's at the delivered 2 days before they put the notice in your box;)

Why are you ripping each other up over someone else's problem

Exactly. USPS uses the word tracking differently than UPS or FedEx. Any intermediate USPS scans are for quality control and are NOT guaranteed available to the customer.

Thanks Capt Obvious Im aware :D Learned the hard way. It just annoys the heck out of me when someone insists on the DC #. There is no reason to doubt my word when I say the item has been shipped, good feedback should back that up imo. I take it kind of personal when someone wants the #'s after I told them it shipped.

No offense but I always ask for this number because I'm in and out of town and try to work my schedule to meet packages that are incoming. The recent upgrades to tracking by the USPS is very helpful to both parties.
It's not a lack of trust to ask for it. If your selling an item, and pay for tracking, what's the big deal with passing on the number?
Just my opinion.

Hey guys,
Finishing up this thread at this point. There is definitely something here that everyone needs to hear also. I received a small package today addressed from Mr. Barnett. Inside was a very humble and genuine letter of apology and a "peace offering". Both of these things hit home for many reasons, including it's congruence with my Cherokee blood. I find this act very moving due to the fact it was:

Privately carried out of his own volition,
Was never mentioned or claimed as an act of reprisal in order to salvage his reputation,
Was explicitly an apology to the person he felt he wronged, not a public self-flogging
Is a genuine act of sacrifice.....

I know that coming to a public forum can be daunting, and at times people make rash decisions. Look me up when I first came to BF.com, the first time something went wrong I properly shoved my own foot down my throat... But I believe that here is a place where people can be comfortable and learn and grow from one another. It has held true for me, and from what I read has already had an effect on Wade. Wade is a good man that made a rash decision, but he is a better man for standing against the firing squad and after all the chatter went quiet sending over an honorable apology.

It's always good to hear about people thinking their way through a bad situation. I'm glad this worked out.

SNIP

I clicked on this thread with the thought "why is this thread still active?", expecting to see more DC discussion or some such. Instead I got to read a genuinely uplifting post about someone doing the right thing and being a stand up guy. Thanks for taking the time to tell us the conclusion to the story.

alriggggggggghhhhht! a good ending to a bad situation. sounds like a win win outcome. great to hear.

vwb563- good one brother! way to man up. very classy outcome.

if i buy anything or sell anything 24 hours is nothing to wait. some people work and do not get to the pc or maybe no internet that day. my electric goes out for hours at a time. if i get a bug in my pc takes me 24 hours or sometimes more just to get the pc back running. i just bought a new pc and the motherboard fried i had to return it to the store and am still waiting for it to get here then i had to revert back to the old pc. some of the latest work is on the new one. so i do not have access to some of the latest work i have done. give a man the chance. 24 hours is not enough.

1, you never provided me with a tracking number nor did you even give me the courtesy of letting me know when you finally found your way to the local post office to ship it. 2, now you are calling me names. i have done nothing but be very professional and polite to you. i did attempt to contact you before filing the dispute with no response! you sure did respond after i filed the dispute! almost immediately after! seems to me you're the "terd" as you put it! what a looser! :jerkit:

It appears that what Wade posted in this thread doesn't accurately portray the person he really is.

Good on ya, Wade.

Exactly what I had mentioned earlier. Sure didn't sound like his style of writing.

I wish he had taken Esav's advice on the matter.
He's had some good posts here at BF and I never saw him make any trouble.
His responses in this thread seemed out of place for him.

mike

Glad to see this end on a much better note.

hello everyone. i just want to say that im sorry to anyone that i may have offended in this thread. i have already did my very best to make things right with 007 and now it is time to do the same with you guys. i was in a very defensive mode and should have been more trusting of him. i was still reeling from a recent bad transaction and should not have taken it out on 007. again,, sorry to all for my attitude and actions.,,,vwb.

That's all it takes. Welcome back!! :)

yes indeed.

welcome back!! we may seem like sharks circling in the water, but we also tend to be very forgiving when an apology is sincere.

:)

I will tell the truth. When I first began going through this thread, I thought to myself, "Well, I need to make sure that I don't deal with this guy ever." Now that I see that you have gone out of your way to make things right, and you see and understand where the problem was, you have restored my faith in you. Good for you, vwb563, for all you have done. I like to see a happy ending.
