WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE: GEC Outlaw Jack #76

I love those slanted bolsters! The long pull on the clip blade is too hard to pass up. I think I'm going with a Northfield this time...

I here ya bro. The long pull on that clip is one of the things I love. Add the square bolsters and its becoming great. If they ever come out with one that has a coping/sheepsfoot blade the size of the pen then it will be legendary in my book.

looking at the pen blade, looks like there's plenty of room between the nail nick and the tip to shape your own

Looking at the 32 pattern jack again, and it's a reverse gunstock, with the pivot at the wider end.

The new 76 GEC is a true gunstock, with the flair opposite the pivot.

Two Northfields just released. The wood looks great and it being a gunstock pattern is pretty tempting. But this one right here is going to be mighty hard for me to pass on. I will wait to see the smooth yellow bone, I love the yellow rose on my 66.

So, if I read you right Jeff, the Case 32 pattern is the reverse, while this GEC 76 pattern is true gunstock (remember I'm new at this, and don't yet have familiarity with all the patterns)?

My 6232 is one of my favorite jack knives, but this copperhead bone 76 is amazing attractive!

You know. The more I use my little 66 the more bombproof I find these knives by GEC. They truelly are made to last several lifetimes. Beauty and Brawn in one package. I dont hesitate to use them on anything. Had to cut back some lino the other day on the concrete. Made one got pass with the 66, I know I punched all the way though in a couple spots. The lino pulled right up and my blade was still sharp. While the 66 will be my daughters, I see the 76 being all mine :D

Doug...

You got it..think of it as holding a rifle..the wider end the stock is against your shoulder while the barrel the narrower end where the primary blades are located is further from you (true Gunstock Pattern) otherwise if the primary blades are placed on the stock end and further from you with the narrower end on your shoulder it would be a Reverse Gunstock Pattern.

Well, I just saw the new NF bone, and it was a hard choice, went back and forth for an hour and picked...

The Root Beer Tidioute! I have so many knives in the same handle as the Copperhead bone and as much as I love the swedges on the NF I just couldn't resist that acrylic. While I wish GEC put it on a NF like my Pumpkin Patch 66 jack, I know I'm gonna love dropping the Root Beer Tidioute in my pocket, and that's what counts, right?

Oh yeah, and finally picked up the NF Calf Roper in Cocobolo too... I am so broke :D

Thanks Jim. That is what I was thinking, but someone told me when I got my 6232 that it was called a gunstock, so I was a bit confused.

The swell part of the frame on the 76 seems more pronounced than on the 6232. It seems to me the Case frame has less change in height from top to bottom throughout the length of the frame than the GEC (the serpentine curve of the bottom of the frame follows the swell on the top, if that makes sense).

Here's a picture of mine to try and illustrate what I'm talking about. The frame is a bit shorter at the pivot end than the opposite end, and the tallest part is at the swell (just above the A in CASE on the shield). But the differences appear to be less here than on the 76 gunstock frame.

Wah! Just ordered one in Rootbeer Float acrylic, spent about 30 min's trying to choose!! Don't normally go for Acrylic but this is funky stuff:)

I believe all the stag and primitive bone knives will have the straight bolsters

Guess I never payed attention. Thanks for the info. I am just drawn to this pattern. The pics of the yellow in progress photos looks great, waiting to see the rest of them before I decide which one I buy.

I admire your willpower. once I started liking a few I panicked thinking by the time the last few came out someone would have snaffled the one I liked earlier...:)

I have my days. If I was not in love with the long pull clip I would have snatched a rootbeer up. The good looking ones went fast. The flavors I am looking at, their is not enough variations that make me have to have one over the other. I have panicked before myself :D Can not wait to see pics of the gems you snagged.

I like those bolsters, the slanted bolsters of the Northfield introduce a few too many angles for me

Sam

I tend to agree, now that I've seen the lined & pinched straight ones. Though I think it'd look nice with opposing slant bolsters.

I like a long pull too. Nice to see plenty of variation in the pattern early on, enough to keep everyone happy and a sign of a company becoming mature and established methinks:)
