Now if they listen to the people and put a coping blade on it instead of that pen, I(and quite a few others) would be extremely happy. I do not understand why most jack patterns dont have a coping option? They have done it with the conductor, it just does not make sense to me.
 
For me the pen serves more purpose by widening the knife and making it more comfortable to use. I keep it sharp and as long as it tucks out of the way I'm happy. One reason I like the Harness Jack, a far more useful way to widen the frame:)

I like this knife a lot.

You can get one with the copperhead jigged bone, long pull on clip and nail nick on pen, pen in front of clip, ringed/slanted/pinched bolsters. This knife IMO is about as good as it gets for a jack. Love the gunstock style. I love the UN-X-LD badge on jigged bone.

IMO this is one of GEC's best designed knives yet.

Also, I know I am in the minority, but I prefer a pen to a coping, especially on this knife.

GEC's low-resolution pictures of the root beer covers did nothing for me, but now that clearer images are appearing?

Oh my golly, that's stunning.

I look forward to more "real" pictures.

I'm accustomed to being in the minority, and I have no problem joining you in this one. I like a good stout pen blade matched with a clip main.

Ah yes Gentlemen, I believe you are in the majority though. You can already order your version ;)
 
I'm just not seeing/getting this #76 or the #62 other than the fact that they are new patterns for GEC. Neither offers any more than the #66 Calf Roper, especially, as to the main Clip blade neither of which is any bigger that the Calf Roper's.

I think, for now, I'll sit it out and get another #66.

Very nice looking knife though with that Root Beer cover Sam. Definite thumbs up. That'll make a nice carry knife in the UK.

ED! Glad to hear you are sitting this one out! It gives me time to save up some scratch! You gobbled those whittlers up like crazy :eek:

For me the big thing is I like the frame better than the #66 and also, just based on pictures I think the clip might be a little bigger/more stout, but of course we won't know for sure until someone takes some comparison pics :D
 
That's a good point about the frame 37. Still going to sit it out though. Evidently, Kevin needs some breathing space to get some scratch together. Hard to believe but that's his story and I'm sure he's sticking to it.

I will say this though - I like my Case 92 framed Texas Jacks much better that GEC's #76.

I dearly enjoy my 32 jack, and have a powerful hankering for a 92. Your pictures are always like fuel on the fire!

Edited to say, not catching up with you by any means, but I did just snag an old red bone 92. Nothing as pretty as yours, but it'll have to do.

I was just fooling around, Ed. Its great to see all the knives you have to share. With any luck the knife will be a gift. I haven't bought a knife since my 85 :)
 
Thanks guys, especially to Pertinux for making the pic's legible (was getting late for me after a long day:)).

I don't have a calf roper, I opted for a #56 instead at the time. I like the #56 but find the dropped nature if the main blade a touch annoying at times. The proportions of this pattern look good to me together with original scales, as Ed said making it a good choice for EDC over here.

I'll post some comparison/proportion pic's when it arrives but suspect that someone else will beat me to it....

Me too Sam! I kept coming back to the Root Beer...man that looks great! And I got a shipping notice yesterday :D

Now I'm trying to figure out how I'm gonna be able to get one of those jigged bone Ole Jacks too, love the shield with the NF details and I'm sure they won't be around long.

Hard for me to say if I prefer this frame or the #66...I might just take both :rolleyes:
As for the pen blade, well count me among those who prefer a wharncliffe over a pen or a coping blade on this knife (and on the #66 jack as well).
As for the rest...now there's one more pattern, so maybe there's one more chance to hope for a 440C version :-)

This pattern is sweet. Great size and GEC nailed the pull on these; medium with half stops on both blades and nail nicks on the same side. F&F is standard GEC excellence. Honestly, the only gripe I can come up with is that I couldn't pick up this acrylic with some 440c. Patinas are going to look great with the bone options but I just don't want this rootbeer acrylic with satin blade to quit looking as fine as it does today! May have to scoop up a bone handle after all. :rolleyes:

Really hoping we see a stockman setup on this frame soon cause a sheepsfoot blade in this handle is going to be awesome. :cool:
 
Awesome pictures!! I have a request, can you take a picture with the main blade out compared to the #85 jack or can you measure the length of the main blade?
