WE Knives? Another high end Chinese company?

Those slim 704CF look great with a 3.6" FFG blade of M390 weighing just 2.87 ounces! I figure around $250?

Couldn't tell if the titanium frame lock had a steel lock bar insert? If not, has the lock face been hardened?

I'm excited for this one. Are all the colors announced? I like the darker color hardware.

WE 704 is very much reminiscent of my CKF Gratch which also has the CF overlay.

The CKF Gratch has a nice grippy contoured CF with titanium liner lock. No stickiness to the titanium liner because it has a stainless steel insert!

going live next week. Budget priced. what do you guys think of it?

Saw that Massdrop Ferrum Forge WE small flipper yesterday from a Massdrop email.

Interesting how it's called "Massdrop x Ferrum Forge Falcon" without any mention of WE in the title. Later, buried in the text, it says that it "will be produced by WE Knife: an OEM in China".

So, it's designed by Ferrum Forge, sold/distributed by Massdrop and made by WE.

"This drop will launch at 6:00 a.m. PST (9:00 a.m. EST) on Tuesday, April 18th for $124.99 with free domestic shipping. The expected ship date will be October 2017."

2.9" S35VN blade, ceramic bearings flipper, titanium clip, titanium backspacer and weighing 3.6 ounces for this price is very attractive and we know WE makes quality knives.

The October 2017 ship date is a little disconcerting as well as if you're charged upon order or shipment.

I think a lot of folks that have been asking for a smaller knife from FF or We will be happy with that.

Both WE and Ferrum Forge have released a couple of flippers each with 3 inches or less blade lengths. However, they're either too bulky, too heavy or the blade too thick. Not this appealing and economical flipper from Massdrop.

The Ferrum Forge/WE collaboration makes little business sense to me because when people get a hold of these and see that they're made as well or better than a much more expensive US made Ferrum Forge, they might be a little less inclined to buy the original product.

Mass drop will charge you card at the time you place the order. I confirmed this. I'm on the fence on this for that very reason.

5 months means no recourse through payment channels in case of issues.

Thats how massdrop works. thats why some people dont like massdrop. take it or leave it. you will be missing out... but its not like the market doesnt already have plenty of great products to choose from. im debating getting this one. the long wait is the issue for me. ive waited two months for a knife from massdrop, any more than that i dont like. heck id rather pay the additional cash and buy products on amazon rather than massdrop usually. only if its a good deal, this knaf is a good deal, but the time frame is crazy long. thats how we rolls tho. i waited several months for the pioneer of the nile that Vlad had we knives make for him. was it worth it in the end? ehh, so so, not really tho. great knife but it got delayed several times.

This is from the drop page:

"The first production run of the Falcon will be serialized. The first 400 purchasers are guaranteed a serial number below 500 (1 per purchaser)."

If there is a second run I might rather pay a premium for something that is currently available.

Indeed and for even more reasons than you mentioned.

FF makes a few nice 3" or less blade length flippers but they're all in the $499+ price range albeit with better CPM-20CV steel (than CPM-S35VN but equivalent to M390 & CTS-204P). However, a 3" folder having a 0.17" thick blade is a no go for many. Personally, such EDC folders should have a blade thickness of 0.12" or less and weigh 3.75 ounces or less.

Perhaps FF is surrendering the 3 inches or less realm or just wants extra dollars for designing. I've seen so many designers/custom makers make various different types of collaborations the past few years that it has muddied the already troubled waters. It is what it is.

This is pure marketing spiel! They want more people initially, thus sweetening the pot with an intangible.

I made a few posts in the discussion of that drop. Personally that knife is a bit too dinky for my tastes but its a rather good deal all around. At $125, its Ferrum Forge design without their prices and about half the price, or less, of any given titanium framelock WE Knife.
