WE Knives? Another high end Chinese company?

My first WE flipper is on its way. It's the WE 705D.

I just hope I'd love the flipper action. They've been staying unsold for quite a while on KnifeCenter so I'm a bit concerned on both WE & KC.

The WE 705 has a 3.6" modified sheepsfoot blade. It's bigger than I'd carry but at $249 you get a ceramic bearings flipper, titanium clip and M390. Weighs only 4.2 ounces!

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. That's the exact one I'd buy if I decide to get one.

I really like the 702. Compares well with the ZT 0452 G-10 gold, same blade steel , M390 and blade shape. The one piece handle gives it a very solid feel.

Thank you for the comparison. I've been especially wanting to see these two side by side. I've been close to throwing down on the 0452 several times at my LKS--great knife but every time it's in hand I'm just a little put off by the size. I hope 702's are around long enough for me to handle one; if so, maybe it'll come home with me. ;)

Id like to know if the 702 is really cnc machined from billet or if some of the handle is rough cast and then cnc'd for the details. The channel for the blade just doesnt look like it was machind. Someone who handled it asked me as well if it was cast as parts onnthe inside of the handle looked molded rather than machined.

I'd be very surprised if they suddenly cut corners like that. What makes it seem cast as opposed to machined?

Well its just how everything is rounded and heavily oxidized so you cant see any evidence of mill lines. The channel inside the handle is not a squared off cut like you get with an end mill. Its very round and almost has a melted look in some spots like flowing metal. And most knives no matter how well made usually you can spot some milling marks but I cant find any evidence of milling. I handed the knife to my brother who said it looked a lot like metal injection molded parts he has seen in the auto industry. None of this is conclusive. It would however explain why the knife is relatively inexpensive for the materials and size and being an integral. I honestly cant tell either way. Regardless of if its a cast handle or milled they did an excellent job of making it to where I cant tell.

I am very excited to do the introduction of the WE 707, a new inhouse design. Don't know when it will be available.

I didn't cut myself with this one :-)

As far as i know it is milled out of one billet of titanium. But i will do some research.

I have asked for confirmation. Here is a piece of the conversation:

And then a question about the WE702 which was asked on a USA forum. Is it completely milled out of one peace of titanium or is it casted and then after casting had further crafting? Because some folks could not find milling marks on some area's where normally these appear when milled out of one piece.。 Hi Henk,For this question. The 702 intergal handle is made by one piece Ti.It's made by CNC milling instead of casted. We EDM a very thick Ti firstly, and then put it on the CNC milling machines for milling.

Hope this will help and take away the doubts.

Yeah, I jumped on too. This seems like a lot of knife for the $. I've never owned a Ferrum Forge but I know the kind of work that WE can do.

I'm surprised that the discussion thread on the Drop has been relatively hate free...so far.

Wow, the knife just broke 400 units sold. I don't think I've ever seen a MD knife go this fast...

i agree. and you know what, We knives were about the only chinese knife getting that much hate. when other china knives go on sale they dont hate on them at all or very minimal. i dont understand it at all. so strange.

I think when massdrop said in the comments we dont want the bs, some of them tried to test the waters but ultimately its turned out fine.

Does anyone know how many they are making of these? currently at around 600 sold almost. i think i read somewhere (i dunno maybe the email) that the were making 1000? or is it more?
