Tomorrow at Noon I am of to Blade Smithing School:cool:
Joe Keeslar & Bert Gaston Will be the instructors. I Hope I don't do anything foolish like hit my thumb:eek::o I haven't felt this nervous in a loooonnnng time. Hey Mace and Aldo I will be leaveing Friday the 26:thumbdn: I can't make the Hammer in but if you get a chance look for me. I am the Guy with the BIG:D

Some cleanup around the house/yard today and then I hope to get into the shop. I've got 4 projects on the bench that are ALMOST done, so I hope to get them finished up. I've also got some mosaic billets that need to be cut an unfolded into blade stock.

Today I been working out in the yard on top of the home, on the wood deck and in the shop. Leaving this week for 4 day. Going south to KY. It will be cold beer, great food and setting around the fire. How about all of you?:jerkit::D

Hey, hey, hey!!!!! Starting to get back into groove.:eek: Have two newbies coming over tomorrow and two regulars:confused:. Starting them off with the cable damascus.
One of the newbies is the X-Ray Technician that took pic's of my hand after the dog bite and the other is 18 years old body builder.:D

I liked the old stories about 19 yo female apartment dwellers better:D Anyway, it's good to hear you are getting back into the smithy.:cool:

spent over 7 hours on the road today, but i managed to get out, sell my cone, get myself a new slack tub, a few good stumps for remounting my anvils, get over to IGs and chat for a couple hours and get back to my place to have supper with my brother and now I just want to pass out in bed >_< Tomorrow I hope to get all my anvils re-mounted well.

I got over to IG's around 9:30 this morning and Wa..Wa..Wally, Nathan and I took the propane fuel tanks out to get them refilled, 2 20lbs., 1 40 lb. and a 100 lb.

We got back to IG's and fired up the forge.

Here's a pic of IG showing Nathan how to pattern weld. This is a billet of 40 layers of 1095 and 1046 that IG is working with.

I left around 1:00 PM because I had to get ready to go out for dinner to the OctoberFest at a local Bistro with Linda and another couple.

Guess I just missed you Justin.

Dave's at Texarkana Bladesmithing School. Last night he called to say he shaved with his knife, cut some rope a couple times, cut through 2x4 a couple times, shaved again, and bent it over 90o and basically it passed. From here on in he hopes to make all good blades. :) Wendy

I'm making chili.

Which must be going well since I've had a neighbor from across the street come over and ask me what is so awesome smelling.

I got out in the shop to do some forging, but ended up doing no blade work. I did however almost finish a forged from farrier's rasp fish that's a key-rack to hang on the wall. Someone I work with has commissoned it, commision work before work for myself >_<

I also got my new big (HUGE !) stump anvil mounted, the stump split however =/ but i've put a pair of metal bands around the stump to hold it together and it seems to be holding up for now, so i'll leave it in the split stump for the time being.

I also managed to pick up a 600$ gas grill for ... 40$ on clearance from walmart, because one of the knobs for one of the many burners is broken... yay, 5$ broken part = 560$ savings. I wasnt planning on buying a massive 5 burner + rotisary + range top stainless steel grill... but i've got one now ! for 40$ i could scrap it just for the stainless and make a profit =P

I had planned on going to "King Richard's Faire" with another couple, but no, I ended up going to work, radiographing a couple of pipes in a ditch.
The areas examined are welds joining sections of pipe, using a radioactive isotope :eek:to expose the film, (with the pipe weld in between the source and the film).
Being x-rayed in a ditch is a good thing, as the earth absorbs most of the radiation (lowering it to a safe level, according to the NRC). This work took place at the “Port of Providence”.

Well that was what I did today  hopefully on Sunday, I’ll be able to forge some steel, I got a couple of bars of Damascus that need to be hammered into a few neck knives, maybe even a bowie

I did get out the shop on Sunday. I forged these 2 out of a piece of Damascus I made earlier this year. :D

October 27th of 2007

Working today outside on the top of the home. leaves and leaves and more leaves will it ever stop. But I will GOT IT DONE. How about all of you?

Finishing up a few things in moms house so we can sell it. Things like base molding and shoe molding in the bathrooms, window sill in the kitchen behind the new counter tops and then clean up my mess. Its amazing how heavy them laminate counter tops are when they are10 foot long and even after you cut them down to 97" its still a pain in the butt to install them by yourself. Hope to work on a knife in a couple of days.

Went to IG's yesterday, dropped off some mason jars, 1/2pint & 1 pint jars. Picked 1/2 gallon mason jars (2), with stabilizing juice in one of them, and had some lunch before going home. IG is always most hospitable.

Today I'll be at my folks house involved in a major cleaning project. All siblings will be there.

November 2, 2007

Well its been a long week here in the shop. I been working on another City Slicker knife. This one will be about the same. But as all my knives there's never two the same. I may offered them as a pair. As a His & Her knife set. But I am still opened on that at this time. Saturday I will be working on the handles drilling holes for the pins and may do some detail work with the bone. I love jig on my handles. fiber as liners, On this one, I am using blue fiber that I think will look great. will also by putting filework on the spine as well. Sunday will be a short day for me in the shop. Monday will be off do to my son going for treatments at the hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana but will be back in the shop on Tuesday first thing in the morning. How about all of you folks what is your week-end going to be? ----:D

Bracing for the storm. The wind is picking up, but it isn't raining to hard. We will see how my new smithy stands up.:D

Still stuck in Scottsdale....was supposed to fly home today, but work happened and I'm staying until Thursday....3 solid weeks of travel so far...I don't know how you do it Ickie....
