Week-end Post, What Are You Doing

Not going to make it to the NCCA show afterall. Just as well I guess, since it saves me 200 extra miles of driving on superbowl sunday

February 8, 2008

Well been working out in the shop most of the week. Just got one of the City Slicker done with the Blue Jig Bone. I have it on my Website to see. :)

We have family coming over this weekend. But I will be out there working! Family or not. I have one more City Slicker to do. After that is done, will be working on something new. Hope your week-end is better so what's up

I am cooking a bigass boiled dinner. The ham is 8.5#. Got Nathan and a maybe Kook and BBBB Beaver coming over tomorrow. Going to show Nathan how to HT some O-1. We both got chef's knives in the works. I hope to work on some orders too?????:eek:
If anyone wants boil dinner come on over. HEHEHEHEHEHE!!!

Every time I tell Wa..Wa..Wally I'm coming over, the SOB moves  . That's OKAY :D cause I alway find him.

Don't know if Kook is going to make it, but I'll be there with a good appetite, and to pick up the blade I forged there last week and left in the annealing box to soften up.

Hrm, I dont have any plans for tomorrow, but I do have some welding questions and whatnot. There's a chance I might swing by your place IG if you and the beaver meister are going to be there, if only to ask some questions and get some pointers so i can make up some dies for my treadle hammer and my fly press so that they can get some use come spring.

Does this mean that you will be not eating???? You Chowhound. HEHEHEHEHEHE!!!

Got Nathan coming over tomorrow for a grinding lesson and on Monday a Realtor to do a evaluation on my home so I can get it on the market. Making a pot of Pea soup today and marinating a Moose steak that Nathan gave to Helen and me.:D

putting a new short block in my Snow blower if it shows up today (hoping ) :grumpy: during that last storm I blew a rod out through the side of it... :thumbdn: I hate snow....and it's snowing again :grumpy:

Hoping that i can get my fly press moved into my garage and set up for forging this weekend, and then i'm going to try to burn a bunch of welding rod and learn to at least get 2 pieces of metal to stick together using an AC stick welder.

Working on my waste oil forge, hopefully finishing it up. Hopefully the variable speed motor will come in today on UPS and I'll be wiring up my grinder. Doing some cleaning in the workshop/garage got a lot of empty boxes that need to be disposed of.

This week-end family in from Ohio State. Setting around drinking cold beer good food and having fun with the grand kid's. No shop work right now til I get my mind back. :)

Probably hanging around this weekend with Linda, go to a movie, out for dinner. Sunday I'll be jamming with some friends.

Dan, small block Chevy? You've been watching too much Tool Time:D

that's an idea but I don't think the tires will hold up :D

just a little 8HP Tecumseh
I got the short block later today now to get the motor back together
dang  I forgot it's fishing derby weekend, I need to get at it.... the scotch is waiting for me ...

Dan, fishing derby? Ice Fishing???

Blowing the motor on your machine is not a good thing. YA GOTTA CHANGE THE OIL!!! Just like my Harley, oil change ever 1000 miles, should keep the motors running for a long, long time.

8hp Tecumseh, that should be enough for the job. How long is the auger, 36"? On my 12 hp B&S I have a 42" and sometimes the hp could be a little more, and that's just for the snow fall we get here in RI. Blizzard of "78" doesn't count :D

yes ice fishing for the week end , the fire dept puts it on,, BUT now my youngest is screwing me up
he needs a tire changed and balanced, oil change, and he developed a anti freeze leak, he was on his way up ( about 1 hour away ) he called me on the way , he forgot the tire and had to go back to get it.. so here I am waiting..

this blower is a Bolens 24" all these small typical engines Tecumseh and B&S do not have rod bearings so if you skip a heart beat on them you can make toast out of them real fast.. dirty oil is one of the big problems and low oil of course.. this was pretty much worn out. in the last two storms it worked in I could hear the rod slapping, I still have a dealer trade account with Tecumseh so I got the short block for a reasonable price :D a short block is about the same as one for automotive but all new, the block down to everything internal. you just use your head and all external components..like the Carb, mag stym, starter/s and such things..
for 231.00 it's like new again..

Spent almost the whole day in the shop, and didnt get a single knife related thing done >_<

I did however try to arc weld for the first time, I kept blowing holes in the metal I was trying to run beads on >_<

Other than that I did a bunch of stuff around the shop that needed doing. I vixed my swage block stand so that my vertical hole is wide enough for my block. I spent 2 hours getting my fly press and stand from my porch into the garage shop, and then getting the press up on the stand... a 300lb hunk of metal with no place to grip isnt easy to lift 3 feet by yourself =P

I then fabricated 20 mounting stubs for top tooling for my flypress, and i even tried welding the collar onto one of them and made a mess, but the 2 pieces stuck together alright.. so I guess it's a success since I just need to weld a tool to the face now. (i'll have to weld the other 19 when i'm better at stick welding)

My last bandsaw blade broke when i was half done the collars, so i made a quick run to harbor freight in Warwick , bought a pair of blades, a big heavy magnet for holding blades against my grinder, some welding clamps, some smaller welding rod, some drill bits and some grinding stones for my dremel.

When I got back i spent 4 hours grinding out the inside of the hardy hole in the anvil of my treadle hammer to make it square and relieving the edges, since the hammer was never fully finished by the previous owner and was still just rough plasma cut out. Now the plate which Larry welded to a 1" square post for me last weekend fits perfectly in the anvil of my treadle hammer so I can actually use it now.

One of my most productive days in the shop since last November. Hopefully i can keep the productivity up tomorrow and Monday, as I've got Monday off work =)

Cut metal for the new forge and forging table for it to go on from 8am to about 3pm. Welded it together from 3-5 (did I mention I've never welded before? ) Cleaned the shop, took a shower and fell asleep until now. Tomorrow I'll be putting the variable speed motor on my Burr King.
