Week-end Post, What Are You Doing

What you all doing this weekend?

I guess I’ll be tearing apart,,,,,,hhhrrrrmmm,,,,hhhrrrmmm,,, I mean disassembling my cycle tomorrow ;).

A 30000 BTU torpedo heater came in today from Northern Tool can take the chill out of the air. I should be out in my garage/smithy/auto/cycle/etc. workshop around 6:00 – 6:30 AM getting the place ready for the disassembly. I reckon it’ll take about 6 hours to have the tranny in my hand.

Next week, I’ll bring the tranny (fully assembled) to work and liquid penetrant test the case to find what the hell is making my tranny leak. I’ll judge from the results of the test if I should repair it, or replace it. If there is cracking and it’s too extensive, weld repair could mess the alignment up between matching machine finishes, making replacement a whole lot less headache.

I’m thinking thecause of the leak is the 29 years of riding (a couple of lay downs) and just plain old metal fatigue.

cleaning the house some more this weekend, that's all i did last weekend and new years too >_< Getting rid of any cardboard boxes, replacing everything with nice stackable plastic drawers, throwing out stuff that iv'e moved from place to place for years and never once moved (guess i dont need it if i havent used it in 7+ years) and just getting rid of crap =P

i suppose if i'm feeling ambitious i could try to get the 200lb icecube out of my slack tub, since i had forgotten to empty it before it froze up solid.

waiting for power. and for the next 2 storms to roll through

otherwise, all good. I am on propane lanterns and stoves, got the woodstove on the porch going. plenty of clean water and a full tank of gas.

Been working on the dock floor where Big Foot stepped and his foot went through. Hope to get a replacement board for the job today when I go to town. :)

Been out in the shop most of the week working on the two knives. I have one on the bench that I am hand rubbing, I am up to 400 grit, I will be happy to get to my mark at 800 grit. I had a order for one City Slicker with the blue wildebeest jig bone and filework on the spine and a spanish notch. So, I decided to make two. :D

One of the knives' as in photo will be sent to Blade magazine for illustration. When I get these two knives done I will be starting another design.

I am in my shop finishing the build and installation of an subaru engine in wifes car, chainsaw milling of 6"x42" x26' slabs for countertops in my log home. So much for being retired...:D

hey larry
how much compression should my 1200 shovel have? TY

Dan, sorry I didn't get back to you sooner but, I just looked in the service manual, and they don't give that info .

For the last 25 years I really never put a compression gauge on my bike. If it started using too much oil, say more than a quart in a 1000 miles, I'd do a top end job at the end of the riding season. That is pretty much the only info they give you. The bike will normally use between a 1/2 and 1 quart per 1000, that's what the book says. :jerkit:
