Week-end Post, What Are You Doing

Nathan, I didn't know you were double jointed. :D

Hell yeah man, somebody's got to do it...

I'm in production in the shop today. 25 "kick stands", 125 disks of some sort and modifying a bunch of little hinges. I'm eyeing that little mill though. I'll have it free here pretty soon and I'm gonna get some knife scales on it.

Well yesterday I was at a heart stopper of a football game. Texas vs. Texas Tech with Tech winning with a near 30 yard touchdown pass to Crabtree with one second left on the clock. Tech had got the football back, down by 1, with less than a minute and a half to go in the game. Plenty of time for the Raiders in most games, and they were somehow able to pull it off last night.

The idiotic students charged the field THREE times prior to the clock running out causing Tech to have to kick off from their own 7 1/2 yard line. Every one of those students should receive reprimands. I really don't care if they rush the field after the game is over, but sheesh...wait until it's OVER.

Texas dropped to 7 in the ESPN polls (too far of a drop I think), and Tech jumps to number 3. If we can pull it off against OSU and OU (then Baylor), we'll see the big game.

Power was out for the morning and part of the afternoon and the weather we and awful. fired up the generator, buffed up and cleaned a couple of fixed blades to ship out to customers tommorow.

Yesterday, cut more firewood, and with the time change we have longer evenings so it will be movie time with the new plasma TV.

For the last two days I been working like a dog here in the shop. I am working on the Field & Camp Knife. Now I can set down and start the Hand rub process which will take a loaded off my feet. I started rubbing it out late last night about 2:30am. I was unable to sleep so decided to go to work.

Saturday will continue to hand rub the blade out and Sunday will be a day off in the shop, but will be out in the yard trying to suck up tree leaves from my lawn. It that time of year. That's all I have to share at this time. Hope your weekend is looking up.

I would also appreciate some prayer for my oldest son David. He called me last night and informed me He and his wife lost there unborn child. It was a sad time for me to hear that new. :(

Thanks: Terry

Ahh :) No work, No funerals.

Got the weekend to spend with Linda. Maybe go out to see a movie, and then have a bite at the restaurant.

I will have time to do some grinding on a couple of blades for my Brother-in-law and his Son.

Spend some of Sunday with Linda riding my cycle cause there isn't much riding season left.

Going to try to get some decent shop time in this weekend, grind the forged to shape blades I've got done, and forge out a Scottish dirk for myself.

I was asked what the small grinder was next to my 2x72 was. And it is called a shaper. Its one of most needed machines in my shop. It gets a work out on every knife I create. I hope this photo is large enough to see. And thanks for your e-mail concerning my method. Have great and blessed day.

Today will be hand rubbing out the blade to 600 grit. Saturday will be handle material day. I have not decided what to use on this Field/ Camp knife. I really like the Amber/Bourbon Wildebeest Bone. I get a lot of orders for this kind of material. It's one of most popular ones that I use here. :)

Sunday will be a clean up day in the shop and out in the yard. It just seems like the leaves won't stop coming down. But I'll get them sooner or later. So, with all that being said what's your week-end starting to look like?

Saturday, I plan on doing a trail canister, to see what the pattern will look like. I don't want to waste any of Helen's ashes. I am trying to get Gary over too. They are burying his wife's ashes today. Rest in peace Donna.

Satuday the 15th is opening day of gun season for deer here in Western NY state, and I will be in the woods at least for Saturday and you never know may Sunday as well. Doug

This beauty is going with me.

I am doing the winter edition of the Reno Gun Show the weekend of the 21st, so I'm getting ready for that. Have one order I'm still trying to get done beforehand, for 3 large blades. So I will likely spend the weekend working on that as much as possible.

If I'm really productive, i can get some work done on a puukko, 2 EDCs, and 2 leuku pattern knives before the show. They are all heat treated and 3 of them have th blades finished. It's the hand rubbing on the EDC blades that is going to be time consuming.

Tomorrow morning, I've got to go to work, as a client is picking up some parts that were NDE'ed today. They should arrive tomorrow at 7AM, I'll get a minimum of 4 hours pay. After that I'll take a ride to IG's and hang there while he and Gary make up and weld that canister.

Sunday, the weather here in RI should be good enough for Linda and I to go for a cycle ride.

While waiting my supplies arrive, I'm testing new things. Begun the silica gel drying, got some resin for micarta, i'll try making micarta tomorrow. Also I'll try to make some ceramic sharpening plates and cylinders, I have good amount of abrasive dusts bought to make a telescope mirror (never finished though)...

I got cold pretty bad but I'm trying to heal myself tonight...

Trying to stay cool while forging as weather is expected in low 90's with high winds...

Ground a 10" reflecting mirror for a telescope once. Started with a flat 10" diameter X 1" thick port hole window from a ship as my grinding plate stock. Used a 10" diameter X 2" thick pyrex glass piece as my mirror stock. After ~40 hours of hand grinding I ended up with a damn good reflecting mirror. It is a very rewarding process. Have fun with it Emre!

I finished to 5 microns so far for an 8 inch glass, but I had to buy some lapping resin, have enough Cerium Oxide, I made also a Foucault tester, only parabolic lapping left. Maybe I'll finish this piece after this custom orders done and handled... I bought a 10" blank also but it is 1" thick...

Ya got my deepest respect. Me, just hoping to get through my twins 13th b-day party, and hoping to get a little learning on grinding.

Hope all is well there.
