Week-end Post, What Are You Doing

Sent my first three knives in for heat treating and will be grinding away on numbers 4-5 On Saturday and Sunday. I figure when I do about 50 they will be worth trying to sell. Until then its practice practice practice. I may just give a few away as Christmas gifts.
 
I'll make it to IG's on Saturday, maybe a jam session Sat. evening, and the Marlborough, MA knife show on Sun.
 
Well!!! Alex just left here and he made up a couple of cable damascus billet. He was impressed with my setup.;)
I am cutting up all the goods for my boiled dinner stew for tomorrow.
It will be Hammer Time tomorrow.:thumbup::cool::D
BBBBeaver, Alex plays the base and just came back from a Broadway Show Tour.
 
I plan to get all of my filing done on my knife, and will sand up to around 200 grit (my emery cloth isn't marked) :)
 
Got 3 EDCs forged out today, got a bowie almost forged out (working on the tang) but the oil I'm using has some gunk in it and clogged the freaking valve on the bucket so I have to clean that out tomorrow.... and filter the freaking oil but at least I'm not paying for it cept for labor of filtering it.

spent 2 hours coming home from work tonight, will be trying to get the roof on my shed in this f@@#$%^n Syracuse sunshine so I can forge without driving 60 miles.

My D2 plate came, stabilized scales just arrived from Larry (galleryhardwoods). I have 2 small 1 big blade profiled and beveled, but I'm pissed off now. Mom decided to change her kitchen just in time :(, I have to deal with workers all week...
 
I got to make it to IG's today and hammered out a few blades.

The middle one was forged from a 4" X1" X1/4" billet of cable damascus,which I normalized and tempered, I forged that one first.

The bottom one was forged from a cable billet Wa..Wa..Wally had hanging around which was already attached to a stick, no tongs needed, that one was forged last. I reckon it's about 10" OAL. Just normalized this one, it still needs to go back in the fire to straighten.

The knife on top is similar to the second blade I forged (S7 made last spring, air quenched). The one I forged today was made of S7, when I finished forging it I water qenched it. I guess I didn't hear it ping, after handeling it for a minute or so, I tried to flex it and it didn't make the 180o bend test :eek:, as a matter of fact it didn't make it to 1o :D

After being at IG's from 8:30 AM till 2:00 PM I went out to my truck only to see that I had locked my keys inside :mad: called AAA they were there in about a 1/2 hour and unlocked my truck in about 0:30 min. :D

There were about 7 people or so that visited some forging others doing other things :jerkit:.

All in all a great day, oh yeah, Mike brought over a grocery bag full of handle material that he let us dig into :thumbup: , thanks Mike.

If anyone did, I missed it. Although Toe Cutter wasn't supposed to arrive till after 3:00 PM cause he was working, so their was still a possibility of human combustion :D
 
Deer hunted yesterday and today. Got to talk on the phone with Terry Barkes Saturday morning for the first time. He is only about an hour away from me. Hope to get to meet him in person sometime.

Today I will be cleaning up the shop and setup on another new knife design. That will be a set down job. Just with paper and pencil, it the way I start all new designs. Sautday be working on the other knives. Sunday day off with family. Hope your week-end is a good one. :)
 
Gray and I will be doing up a practice canister and if it comes out, we will do another 2 one with his and one with Helen's ashes.
This spring we are going to do up one canister with Helen's and Donna's ashes and will have a open house in their honor the day that we do it.:thumbup:
 
Taking the mowing deck off and putting the snow thrower :grumpy: on the tractor.

Drilled the handle holes on 3 blades this morning, clay coated 2, will HT this afternoon.

Wa..Wa..Wally good luck with the canisters, and that's Wolf isn't it :jerkit:.
 
ALABAMA vs auburn this weekend.... whole state shuts down for this game. Gotta get my guns loaded and cleaned just in case auburn wins (in-laws are auburn fans.) People down here have been known to shoot each other over this game. Last year a dad shot his 22yo son after the game (son was an auburn fan.)

Got 1 knife to finish for a customer, 1 knife to finish as a gift, 1 knife to finish as something to put up for sale.
