Week-end Post, What Are You Doing

Here is today's work output.
The sword is forged in 1080. ( covered with dust and finger smudges in photo)
17" blade, 22" OAL
Blackwood haft
Wrought iron guard that I twisted as I forged it out.
Engraved - "Saint Andrew's Society Of Tidewater" and the opposite side -" Robert Burns * Scotland's Bard *
Small engraving at ricasso "Stacy E. Apelt/Norfolk Va."
and reverse, "Burns Nicht 2009".

Hawks range from 16" to 12".
The big one is Bill Moran's hawk. He started it before he died and never finished it.The wood is his, too. I will do silver wire inlay on all three hawks.
Second one is the poll that Richard Raymond sent me.
Third is a little belt axe with a WI body and a 1095 bit. It has a knife edge.

I forged out 16 swords for the Imperial Japanese Navy.

I hand sanded 39 knives.

I forged a few Makah Indian whaling harpoons.

I can't remember what I did after lunch though.

Whewe! What a day!

Just got back from my black tie dinner... guess who was there! That's right, Ted Turner and Kofi Anon! What kidders those two. Ah... good times! :)

Before we headed out for dinner, I forged out 7 tantos and another 3 swords. Got them all heat-treated. Hopefully I'll get them finished up and in the mail tomorrow morning.

Will be working in the shop most of the day. Saturday will be a set down job working on same new ones I've been wanting to do. Sunday family day. How's your week-end looking? --------:)

Terry

Terry, this is one of the best threads in BF. I haven't read it every week but it's like the sunrise and sunset, it's nice to stop and take notice once in a while. :)

This weekend I am going to REDO(cutout, clean up, cut nail pulls, rough grind, etc) some blades and springs for a couple of knives that I am making for a BF friend. I still encounter many DANGITS in my quest to make the perfect knife and this one really disappointed me. Note to self: MUST PAY CLOSER ATTENTION TO THE DETAILS!!!!

Ya'll have a great weekend!

visiting my mom on saturday celebrating my birthday, then attending Burns Night dinner up in Portsmouth NH saturday night, then driving to boston on sunday to visit my evil twin (yes, i have an evil twin) and meet my dad and celebrate my birthday again. (which is sunday)

Hey!!! Happy B'day to you twins, tomorrow.:D

Finishing up the sheath for Dyson's birthday knife. Tomorrow afternoon Linda and I will go to Phil's and give Dyson his very best birthday present he'll ever get :D (at least til he's 11 ). I'll take a few pics of this one.

I've been sipping 150 proof whiskey all afternoon so I'm going to try and stay out of the ditch on the way home, where I will most likely pass out.l AS soom as I'm done this LAST beer...

Just finished printing all the table charts and planning sheets for the Burns supper tomorrow. I will be hosting the formal event for 80 Scotsmen and women. It will be a grand affair.

Happy Birthday Justin.

Happy Birthday Justin and Nitsuj.

Stacy there are several mental images that come to mind at a formal gathering of Scots.... but I'll decline the dubious honor of painting these images for those that are genteel.

Lorien, don't wreck your bike and tear up the wrapping.... I'm not warranting a drinking and biking accident :p

Lesseeee, I hopefull will be over this episode of gout, I toughed out work with it and it really sucks (we walk about 3 miles daily in my department), thank God for lortab when I get home. Youngest has a ball game, I've got a sheath to finish, 5 blades that didn't get finished last weekend still staring at me, 3 more that need to be ground and heat treated. A golok that needs testing, some chef's knives that need to be drawn and patterns made......

I'm guessing I'm going to lay in bed after my daughter's ball game and do nothing but watch TV, take lortabs and zone out.

I'm waiting on my new oven element to arrive!! so in the meantime i've been cutting lots 'o TI,roughing out pocket clips and getting some orders ready for heatreat!

Last night's Burns supper went flawlessly. We had 80 people there. There were lots of good raffle prized donated. One was a Westclox "Scotty" pocket watch in mint condition. The grand prize was a Scottish Short Sword made by me. 1080 blade, wrought iron guard, blackwood handle. Here are some photos of the evening.
