Week-end Post, What Are You Doing

Going 5 hours North this Sunday to see Mike Vagnino for some forging instruction. Don't know anyone in San Diego that has much forging experience. Getting really excited about the visit!

you must be making two GAWDs. I wonder who the other guy is?;)

The comedy act must be how you pay for knives :p You and IG could go on the road... Portagee and Canuck Comedy team. Be like Terrance and Phillips on South Park, eat IG's cooking and fart on each other :barf:

Add you to the act and we could be the 4B comedy team. BBBBeaver, Butthead and Butt Breath. Guess which one YOU are! :p

I really think we need a "what I actually did this weekend thread"

It'd be like:
I planned on forging 3 blades, heat treating make a sheath... blah blah blah

I actually stayed on BF for 83 hours arguing with IG about how ugly he was and how bad his food must be to make his neck throw up like that. Then responded to his dog turd comment. Answered 77 questions about if bed spring coils can be forge welded into cable damascus if you've never forged a blade before. Answered 35 questions about what tools are needed to start making knives with, 13 questions about how to heat treat simple carbon steels using a toaster oven, 3 gallons of lighter fluid and an oven mitt.

except for ingesting the results of IG's cooking, and flatulating in each other's general direction, that sounds like fun! Whaddaya say George? I'll bring the BC bud, and you can bring the whiskey:thumbup:

Don't worry Will, I don't have any plans to quit my day job:p

Ps. Terrence and Phillip ARE Canadian... Hey, ain't you part Canuck Will:D
Remind me never to take a drive on that test track of yours, unless I have full control over ALL the power windows:p

Sounds cool to me.:cool::D Maybe BBBB Beaver and Butthead (Yellowneck) would be funnier, but looks don't count. HEHEHEHEHE!!! I could see Yellowneck with the cigar in his mouth doing a Groucho Marx impression.:D

Please tell Mike I said hi! Or better yet, I'll just call and bug him while he's trying to teach you ;) j/k.

My friendship with Mike started about 7 or 8 years ago when I took a forging class with Mike. He is one of the best you could pick to learn this stuff from!!!

Have fun, and don't forget to take a notebook and your camera! :D

I spent Saturday and today cleaning out and rearranging the wood shop.
First I had to find the floor.....once that was established, I took out all the equipment, wood, supplies, tools, boxes of stuff, .........etc.
Then I installed an additional work counter (from the old jewelry store), and reconfigured the equipment. I spent the day today putting everything back. I found so much stuff it is amazing. I got all the portable power tools on the shelves again. I didn't realize I had five routers, four belt multiple drills, etc.
I dumped about 300 pounds of sawdust and wood trimmings in the fill spot behind the shop.I put 400 pounds of trash and metal junk in the trash cans. The shop is nice and neat and I am really going to try and keep it that way. I have a lot of equipment that is redundant or not needed anymore. I am going to give away a lot of it, and sell a few pieces. I will post a list when i get ready to clear the excess out. Those of you who live in the nearby area stay tuned.

I also came across two boxes ( about 50 pounds) of wood that I cut up and set aside to dry a couple years ago. It is some real nice Box Elder burl and Buckeye burl. It will be going off to WSSI soon.
I also found an entire box full of wood that had come back from WSSI and I had not got around to cutting it into handle blocks and scales. Some nice Spalted Maple,Carpathian Elm,Redwood burl, Coolibah burl, Brown Meele burl, and Yellow Box burl.

Went to the St Andrews society of RI burns supper Saturday and met some wonderful people who live just down the road from me. One of them is the dance instructor for the RI Scottish Highland Dance society, and we've all agreed to get together for the dance meetings, even though the rest of us don't know the first thing about highland dancing... but we're willing to learn !

We attempted some dances Saturday, not that successfully, but we had a blast doing it. We're going to be getting together as a group for some scotch tasting soon as well. Was a great Saturday! Today, Sunday, I drove up to New Hampshire to visit my mother and my brothers, and hung out and had a home cooked meal. Just a weekend of relaxation, haven't had a real good one in a long time.

Walked the dog, thought about how to put a guard on my 3rd knife on Saturday. Attended church on Sunday, walked the dog and thought about how to put a guard on my 3rd knife. Got the 4 wheeler stuck. Freed the 4 wheeler and took the dog on a run. He is out of shape. This was the first run since last fall. Puttzed around with some leather and thought about how to put a guard on my 3rd knife. Searched the forum on how to shape guards. Found a thread and read the post by Mungo Park. Went out to the shop and fit and shaped a brass guard on my 3rd knife. Turned out rather nice. Thanks Mungo Park

I had a mini hammer-in... had Erin and Jack (both from the forum here) and Mark from school over to the shop.

It would have been better if I'd gotten more than 2.5 hours of sleep and was a little better prepared! But I still had a good time... it was nice to have fellow knife people in the shop! :)

Apparently the oven mitt is the part I missed... thanks for clearing that up!

Jeez George, you used good beers and Buds in the same paragraph! Say it isn't so.

I have a date Saturday, with a real, live woman! I'm so excited... I can't decide whether to wear my coveralls or my nice new shop apron...

Happy Valentine's, you lunatics! Be nice to the lady in your life... even if it's just the gal at the pharmacy where you pick up your meds.

I'd imagine to him Bud IS good beer..... :barf:

James, sounds like fun, I haven't been out on a date with a woman since I got remarried :p
