Week-end Post, What Are You Doing

I'd imagine to him Bud IS good beer..... :barf:
:p

Jeez George, you used good beers and Buds in the same paragraph! Say it isn't so.

Will, Steve, ya gotta understand, it's not like Wa..Wa..Wally has much choice in it, when it comes to taste and selection of "Beer", he's a little challanged, (nudge, nudge, wink, wink ) if ya know what I mean  :D

I've been sanding on a clip point, and I'm going to continue with that tomorrow, as soon as I get out of work, 5AM till 11AM, plus I'll have to cuddle up with the real boss, when Linda's happy, everyones happy.

Hope you all have a great weekend :D

In any case, ya can't go wrong with reservations for steak and lobster... I'm gettin hungry already!

took my wife out for valentines dinner early, then to the new "rock-n-roll Irish Pub" in the neighborhood. Was talking to the owner, and I might end up in a band :D

Had my granddaughter, Zoey, over for the day. We made a gingerbread house and decorated it. Lots of fun. Then we went out and did some yard stuff. After filling the bird feeder, and seeing all the birds come in , we sat on the porch and counted and identified the birds that came to eat ( Over twenty species, and YEAH -the red wing blackbirds are back). I pointed out the males and females. Zoey asked why the males were bright and the females were dull. I explained the evolutionary advantage of camouflaged females and brilliant males. Somehow that moved on to where I explained how genetic changes and natural selection improve and even change a species. That somehow morphed into the lactose gene (our latest gene) and the relationship of cattle raising to the development of modern man .....and it was quite fulfilling how much of this a 9 year old was able to absorb and understand.
It was a great day.
Below are some photos (notice the green icing on her lip).

Enter the Haggis sounds like some kind of unsavory Australian punk rock practice...

That's cool. My daughter is 9, and she's way smarter than me... I guess that's not sayin' much, though.

I threw a cookout yesterday... $100 worth of beer, wurst, chicken, venison and steaks... 3 hours slavin over a hot grill out in the cold... my GF brought homemade twice-baked potatoes and brownies, and Valentine's treats for everyone... the ONLY person who said "thank you" was my daughter. (Including the "adults") Oh well, I have enough leftovers that I won't have to make lunch all week

James - maybe your cooking sucked? ;) :p

Just kidding! :D That is really frustrating to me as well... It's so easy to say "please" and "thank you" but SOOOOO FEW people do it anymore. After all that, you definitely deserved a big thank you!

Which is all another nod to knife folks being good people... the last several people I've had in the shop were real appreciative of my time, and that little thing makes it all feel so worth it and makes you want to do it again. :)

Nick, I don't think it was too bad, most folks had seconds :o And I know I didn't mess up the beer! :D

Plain ol' manners does seem to be a dying thing, which is sad. So much so that people often look at me funny for saying thanks or holding the door for them. The men in my family always opened doors for the ladies, shook hands when meeting someone, etc. I'm lucky I was brought up around that.

Going to see King Tut. I can't wait to see the real deal. It amazes me to think of what they did back then with the tools they had.

Enter the Haggis is (or at least was when I opened for them) Celtic rock, some of their stuff kicks it up a bit (although nowhere near as high energy as Flogging Molly or Dropkick Murphy which I would classify more as Celtic Punk)
unfortunately since they got signed, they have been going more and more into a college pop market genre (think Bare Naked Ladies with Celtic instruments and better musicians:barf: )
fortunately at least so far they still do some of their Celtic stuff in the lineup, and their "Star of the County Down" and "Lanigan's Ball" and "Minstrel Boy" rock!

When I used to do all the Highland Games. My tent had a faux front that looked like a castle, and extended back 20 feet. I always had lots of chairs, beer, and food. Back then there was this really good band called Clan na Gael, They would hang out at my tent ,between sets, all weekend . Then the got popular, changed their name to Seven Nations, and started the college circuit.Once there was a following and crowds of girls, they couldn't just sit back and rest with a beer. They had to get into their cars and leave as soon as a set was done, or they would be mobbed.
Other groups, like Hadrian's Wall, used to hang out with us too.
Those were fun days.
We used to have a celtic jam at The White Horse Pub, every Wednesday night. I would go most every week.Fiddlers, guitars, small pipes, bodhrans, harps, and more. Then that got too popular and crowded ( and the pub said the people weren't buying enough beer) and it ended.
Now ,we have a Celtic jam in the back yard at my End of Spring Picnic, in June. last year they played for about four hours solid.

I really like the Celtic Rock bands, but as Page noted, many are drifting toward celtic punk and trying to appeal to the college crowd. Can't blame them, that is where the money is.

This week-end working in the shop til the wife gets home. Then we will be working on 2 bed-rooms. Getting new beds for two rooms. The beds are called Tempur-Pedic and I hope it helps our backs.

I've been working away here and there on it this past week, but I expect by the end of this weekend, I'll have finished making my very first knife-like object.

Will told me that making knives is addicting, and I think he's right.

Wa..Wa..Wally, I'll call you tomorrow, (fair warning).

Stacey,

Here is a Celtic band that Linda and I have been seeing since around 2001, Linda actually started seeing them first and I probably checked them our for the first time in 02.

http://glengarrybhoys.com/

Linda and I went with the Bhoys to Ireland in 03 (Iraqi war began while we were flying there). What a beautiful Country Ireland is. The whole week we were there the weather was perfect, sunny everyday temps ranging from 40oF to 50oF or so. That week it rained a total of maybe ½”. The following year we went with the Bhoys to Scotland, again an awesome vacation, but these are stories for another time.

I really want to fire up the forge tomorrow, though I've got plenty other things to work on like, maybe fit the guard to a couple of blades

:jerkit: hmm which one will it be fire or filing?

Hope you all have a fun weekend. :D
