Well let's start! Hand Tool Knife WIP Thingy

Dan,
Accckkkk straight lines  :p

A nice thin point prevents the need for a false edge/swedged for getting into stuff. I prefer pointy :D

Hey now, I put that nice round butt for a lanyard hole on just for you, and the belly in the grip for good measure.

I should put a square butt and a tanto point on the next one just to razz you will :P

My first knives were square and had tanto points but I grew out of it :p

Make what you like, I'd advise that you mock it up and pretend to use it for a bit.

I'm not trying to force my design concepts on anyone, I'm just making knives the only way I know how and that's not very good at all :( but I try and my ninja monkeys help a lot :D

Point taken Will. I was under the impression the guys here would put in their constructive criticism and rip the design to shreds and point my noob self in the right direction. I just took it as an opportunity to poke some fun at you. :p

No ninja monkeys here. Only the ninja cat. Which is much too ninja like. I cant see her. Working on a second design as is. Handles are just irritating me as is. im trying to find a bolsterless design thats not too fancy so I dont over tax myself on curves and angles. I figure ease myself into something simple now then get more adventureous as time goes by.

Hey Will,
What do you use to cut your blades out with?
I was going to use my angle grinder, but then thought I'd try and stick with the hand tools only spirit of this project.

Wade, for this project I'm going to use my bandsaw :p I normally forge blades so there's not a lot of need for shaping (well if I do my job right). I have done the drill a hole and hacksaw method before. I don't think I like y'all enough to hand cut more than 1 blade using a hacksaw.

I like what I see with this one if you can fatten the handle up a bit, the overall lines are great! A really thin handle like this will normally cause your hand to cramp up if used for any length of time.

That was my thoughts too Will. I'll play with a mock up and fatten it up to suit. The overall shape is there, it just needs some refinement. The only other thing im going to change is the very back of the blade where it curves up. I see that being an irritation more so than anything. I'll probably straighten it out, or polish it downward.

if you guys don't like this wood you have no soul and I'm coming to your house to kick you in the taint until your eyes bleed!

I just want to add that I think this line is priceless and will attempt to work "kick you in the taint until your eyes bleed" into more of my daily conversations.

Hey guys, didn't get much done on Sunday, we had power outages all day at the house due to inclement weather (tornadoes) yes, I was posting on BF but that's due to my wife's wonderful laptop with cellular internet.

Dustin, got your design, which one did you want cut out?

I'm aiming to ship everything no later then Friday or Saturday, they'll be priority so y'all will have them middle of next week.

Sweeeeeeeeet, I can wait.

Thanks again will for doing this and supplying almost everything, It is really helping a new maker like myself!!

Its been mocked up Will, and looks pretty close to this. Im thinking if I leave the top of the edge trailing back from the blade I could use it as a bottle opener in a pinch. Anyway, I smoothed it out for this image.. I'll have to test the bottle opener thing once I get it in metal.

I also downsized the actual image size in hopes I could get it a 1:1 ratio on paper incase I wanted to redo one later. Damnedable printer never prints the size of the images on screen.
