Nope, you dont have a problem, it's just your heart telling your brain to do the right thing.Ughh you guys... it’s almost midnight here and I’m laying awake thinking about changing my vote to smooth ivory. I think I have a problem.
Change it. With the busyness of that bolster the smooth bone will be the proper contrast. It’s really the only way to go.Ughh you guys... it’s almost midnight here and I’m laying awake thinking about changing my vote to smooth ivory. I think I have a problem.
Cha-Chingpops
I could definitely get on board with checkered covers, as long as it doesn't price it out of consideration.Sawcut is boring, everybody does it. And it's going to make a knife this size almost impossible to carry comfortably. (And I know most of you don't care because you'll never use the dang thing anyways.)
Checkered would have made this special, which I always hope to have in the forum knife. No offense Charlie, but checkered Ivory bone would really be better than smooth. That not being an option I'll go contrary and vote for jigging.
Just out of curiosity, how is checkered bone easier to carry than saw cut bone?Sawcut is boring, everybody does it. And it's going to make a knife this size almost impossible to carry comfortably. (And I know most of you don't care because you'll never use the dang thing anyways.)

I never said it was easier to carry. But if done as shown below it would be more comfortable in a pocket.Just out of curiosity, how is checkered bone easier to carry than saw cut bone?
Thanks for posting that lovely knife! But ask an artisan how much work it takes!!I never said it was easier to carry. But if done as shown below it would be more comfortable in a pocket.
I realize it's not something most people on this forum have experience with, checkering on knives being rare. But I continue to hold out for a forum knife that doesn't trend toward mediocrity. I find it incredibly sad that back when we had runs of 100 knives we could dictate what we wanted and now, when 500 knifes are being touted, we're settling. I'm firm in the belief that going back to 100 knives in a pattern not produced in 50 years would be of more benefit to the hobby than another run of 500 where the only differences from every other production run are so miniscule nobody will ever notice.

Hear, hear! I’m from Chicago, where the saying goes, “vote early, vote often.”With a large bolster knife, an expanse of Smooth Bone makes for a sleek. appearance Even more so when the bolster is intricate and the slabs bevelled.
If I could change my vote I would, by adding 50 more for SmoothBallot stuffing has a lot of precedents..and remember, it's Charlie who COUNTS the votes

I've done my share of gunstocks, so I know what it takes. If we go smooth bone I may have to dig out my tools. But ask an artisan how much work it takes!!
