went to my area knife store!

Plaza Cutlery is 5 miles from my doorstep muhahahaha.

Gundude73, next time you make the drive to Plaza you should drive another 12 miles to Orange and check out The Knife Gallery in the Orange Mall. It's about 2/3 the size of Plaza, but they have some stuff Dan doesn't in Spyderco, Kershaw, and BM.

5 miles? and i thought i was lucky

cool. sounds good. i like me some spyderco :D

You guys ever been to Knife City in AZ? It's advertised off I-40. I saw some amazing s#it there! Got to handle a damascus MT Combat Talon and splash anodized Halo 3. The prices were high as all hell though. I think they wanted $2K for the Combat Talon and this was in 04. Not a bad shop though, literally a grocery shop sized building with every production knife in glass cases.

I'd like to point out just how nice the folks at Plaza Cutlery are. I'm fairly close by and stop by...often. I can't buy every time I go in, not by a long shot, but they have never treated me with anything but patience and courtesy, no matter what. The selection is outstanding, but the people who work there are even better.

i hate you.

no, seriously, i hate you for having such an awesome store nearby.

the closest thing to a "knife shop" inside of ~1,000 miles of me is either a local gunshop or the saddlers.

both have minimal ranges and maximum prices.

Damn dude, I thought my situation was bad. The guy at the indoor pistol range had some Striders on consignment and the usual assortment of BMs and Spyders. Pretty much every shop here is getting a bit more than MSRP. Ever see a John T's shop in the mall? I paid $100 for a pink mini grip at that shop.

I like Recon one in Tarzana on Ventura Blvd., and even Larry's Shave shop in Santa Monica, they are quaint little places. I am known by name in Recon one. I saw Art LeFluir (character actor-very familiar face) in there once. I left him alone, did not even acknowledge that he was a star. I would not want to bother anyone who was looking at knives. I am going to be in Costa Mesa in two weeks for work, so I will hit both Plaza Cutlery and the store in Orange as well. I may as well mention the Army surplus store just off Main St. in Ventura (city of). For a surplus store, they have a great selection of tactical folders. I would strongly recommend them. I bought a BM 710 there. There is also a cutlery shop on Main st. there as well. This is a great thread. I always wondered what Plaza cutlery was like, but I try to avoid the 405 fwy. Any time you get on the 405 fwy it takes 4 or 5 hrs to get where you are going.

Eh Chris, are you going to be at the Plaza show in October?

What a coincidence. I just found that store completely by luck while accompanying my wife on a shopping trip. We were visiting from California from Hawaii and I was hating my day until I saw that shop. Because I was being so accommodating my wife didn't complain when I spent $450 on a Zero Tolerance and Benchmade knife. I was smiling the rest of the day.

mmmm mini cqc7 pe black with a wave, yum. ;)

Really jealous of you guys with these shops around! very cool

I am not aware of a quality knife shop around me in northern Illinois :-/

There really aren't any. The only one I know of that has a decent selection is Shore galleries in Lincolwood, pretty much on the other side the chicago border (kedzie and touhy, i think). They have some spydies, all classes of BM, ZT, and more, but some of their prices are MSRP from what I've seen. I love supporting specialty shops, but they wanted $200 for a digicam spyderco military and I couldn't do it.

I'm Speechless!! Wow - brings tears of joy to my eyes. All we have is Wal-Mart here too. :(

recon 1 has nice stuff, but extremely high prices.

they will haggle, but you really have to know what prices are fair.

and i think he was recently banned here, so maybe don't mention bfc.

;)

Whoa I didnt even realize there were ANY knife shops around Chicago where I live for hundreds of miles in any direction. Thanks for the info.

I'm seriously envious of the guys who live by great knife shops, continue to post pics in the future please .
