Whacha Been Up To......

Thank you 😊👍👍!!!! I’m trying lol
You have really developed a distinctive style and thats great. Fantastic work!

Hadn't been around much lately Been crazy busy and not a lot of shop time. Our daughter got married lil bit ago and that has had us busier than a one legged man at a butt kicking contest that had to swim through a lagoon neck deep in alligators to get there too! We had the ceremony out at the ranch and the reception at the house. Ya know me just a few pics:

My sister in law Dawn, the redhead with the cigar did the charcuterie table. Took her and two assistants 3 days. That table was 8'x4' and she filled every square inch.

Kinda a funny story about Nichole's speech that she gave to the couple. So just to keep all the Dave's straight on this outfit. The groom's dad is Big Dave, I'm Dave and the groom is David Eugene. Both the bride and groom played sports throughout high school and in college. Alyssa was a basketball star and David Eugene played football and baseball in high school and baseball in college. He was a pitcher. In high school had a 91mph fast ball and in college he was pushing a 94-95 mph. Nichole told him years ago (the couple have been friends since middle school and started dating their senior year of high school), that she wanted a signed baseball. Then when he was a famous pitcher in the MLB she'd sell it for lots of money. So he signed and dated a ball for her. It's sitting on a shelf above the desk as I type this. So Nichole was thinking about what to write up for her speech and she looked up at the ball and got inspiration from the ball. Nichole starting her speech:

What was so inspiring about the baseball?

The date David Eugene signed it was 8/6/14. The date of the wedding? 8/6/22. What kind of coinkidink is that?

More later gotta go feed.

Congrats to the happy couple and you guys look pretty happy too !!!

Thanks Gary. Yeah it was a great day. Had several different people say it was the best wedding they'd ever been to. Kinda a funny story. This is my son Logan, my nephew Mattie and my other son Josh:

fxBOz7k.jpg

Josh had left his Horsewright belts in Florida when he flew out for the wedding but the other two are appropriately attired, anyhoo. When it came time for the garter toss all the single guys gathered up on the dance floor. The garter was tossed, Logan, not single and not lined up there, came slicing in from the sidelines, jumped, grabbed the garter mid air and handed it off to Mattie as he went by.

Logan wasn't done yet. He grabbed Nichole, literally picked her up:

And said it was time for a keg stand.

Few minutes later I was around the side of the house talking with someone and I saw Logan running towards me. I knew what was up. Told him he wasn't big enough. Turned out I was wrong in that assessment and Logan was just the decoy as I was pushing him away, the groom picked me up from behind. They had a plan. I dumped my drink on the groom's head but it didn't slow em down any. No pics but yep I ended up doing a keg stand too.

It was a great party. We had hired a DD to drive folks home that needed it. the music stopped bout 1030 but folks were still pulling out till 12:30-1. Josh and I were the last two. We stayed up smoking cigars and sipping whiskey and philosphying till 3:30. We'd solved world hunger and was working on peace in the Mid East when we ran out of gas.

We were wrung out. Months of getting ready for that day and then several days of clean up afterwards. Josh, (in the Army) was able to extend his leave and re arrange his flight back to Fl. He and Nichole got on line and found us a great motel over at the beach. Literally it seemed like the waves were crashing under our balcony. So Josh stayed and took care of the rancho and we went away for a couple days. First timed we'd been away in 2.5 years. Able to give the prototype of Nichole's leather duffel bag a work out:

We literally parked the truck and didn't start it for 3 days. Everything was right there. We found a restaurant we liked so much, Custom House in Avila Beach that we ate there every meal the entire trip except for breakfast. It was only two blocks from the motel.

Couple three days wasn't long enough.

Now THAT’S a celebration!
And looks like it ended on a well deserved mini vacation!
G2
Congrats!
And great photos!!!

Thanks guys. Yeah it did G2 we needed that. Been knee deep in grinding dust since. Getting 109 blades ready for heat treat.

My sister in law Dawn took those pics of the wedding. She had like 886 pics I downloaded off her card. Took a while to go through em. There was a pro hired too but we haven’t got those pics yet. Also a video guy that made a great video of the ceremony at the ranch.

Built this as a proto for a Busse TGULB.
Tried my hand at some vintage gel over russet leather. Also learning I’m not a fan of black stitching lol. But again this was good to practice / experiment on 👍😉🤷‍♂️🤣

Wow !!!! Great work 👍👍👍👍

Yeah the black stitch didn’t give the rustic look I was thinking it would. Probably would’ve been been better off with natural thread , that’s what I get for second guessing myself lol. Although the black thread looks better in person, it’s still missing that look. I think I’ll keep the black thread for black leather , that blacked out look. I get asked for that every now and again 🤷‍♂️

We were for a why doing a lot of colored stitching. It seems to have tapered off over the last year or two. Occasionally on a women's belt or pair of leggings but mostly day in and day out its white.

Just got a 109 blades ground out and ready for heat treat. Finishoing off the last couple on a long hot day:

Nichole keeps kicking out her duffel bags. Although spendy they have been crazy popular. She's made like ten already and has a pin up board in her office filled with orders to go. Here's another, this one goes to a Brand Inspector up north:

And her travel bags keep going too. She made a batch of five the other day and they are all gone:

Course then there is Mitchy. We're getting ready to register him. We went out to take some pics for his registration papers. Tough to pose a five month old colt. Kinda wants to go see the world and not stand still. They want to see all four legs in each shot too. Here's four of the six required:

Here's a pair of spur straps that shipped out yesterday. Been quite a while since I'd made a pair since Nichole mostly does this project. I did this one as she was tied up with duffels and I do the Carlos Border stamping anyways:

Good looking colt! Not only do yall do beautiful work, yall also take beautiful photos!

I've been gearing up lately. I battled with Covid for a few weeks. Then my youngest son flew home taking a vacation from the Navy for a couple of weeks and bought a new Tesla, then drove it back to California. Man, them things are faster than I thought they were. It pinned me in the seat pretty good. I gave him his Carothers DEK1 and the leather sheath that I made for him with the Navy patch. I'll see now how it holds up to use.

I've bought more Angelus paints and 2-Thin, Duller, and Leather Preparer to step-up my painting. I've been experimenting with mixing the colors with water and 2-Thin and stuff to get the best colors and penetration into the leather. I've also been setting up to start making Kydex sheaths. My B&D extra wide Oven arrived yesterday. I'm waiting for my Kydex and accessories to get here. I also bought a bunch of Ulti-Clips and some other sheath clips to check out. I got my granddaughter some Psychedelic Camo and Pink Rattler snakeskin Kydex. Her favorite colors are Pink and Purple. And she likes snakes. My oldest son has a Boa.
