Whacha Been Up To......

Thanks. Of course I'll upload some pics. I went ahead and wet molded the Skull and Flames sheath before I painted it. I didn't want to take the chance in messing it up molding it later. I also got some medium brown antique paste to use on the sheath.
Good deal! BTW thank your son for us for his service. Where is he stationed at here in Cali?

Finished off a couple of oak carved holsters. Actually kept one for myself.

These two are the gifts for the high bidders at a bull sale. Same outfit we get our bulls from:

Had five different pancake sheaths to oak carve this batch. Most I've ever done at one time:

Made this knife bout a hundred years ago. It was in for a new sheath and Italked the owner into a rebuild on the knife too. Re ground the blade (lots of life and hard use), re etched and re handled:

These two were in for new sheaths too. Don't know who made the knives:

Finishing up some belts and learning how to carve. Got the kids their own marble slabs for tooling and now the wife has started to get into it as well. When it comes to the shop, the famous line from Jaws comes to mind... "We're gonna need a bigger boat"

Those look really good. Very clean! Those oval belt punches are tough to get lined up right every time. I gave up trying and went round.

Very nice belts!
I made a simple little jig out of leather that helps me line up the oval punches. Not perfect but works pretty well. I just punched a hole in a heavy piece of leather, scribed a center line through it and then cut it out the same width as a belt. Just line it up on the belt, set the punch in and tap moderately firm. Move the jig, position punch on the mark and finish the hole. Not fast but gets it done.

Thanks Dave, yeah the ovals are a pain to line up, not to mention the one I have isn't perfectly oval so I try to make sure the punch stays in the same direction as I go. Really impossible to notice but I know it's there, a ridiculous battle that I fight way too often.

Thanks. That's a good idea, I've been punching the first and last hole and then putting down a heavy ruler to score the rest. A jig makes sense, I'll have to rig one up.

I'm a fan, personally.

Looking good John!!. Great to have the whole family involved..... Something to be cherished!!!!! Good times fly by while those rough times seem to last too long!!!!!! Enjoy making memories!!!!

Very nice !!!!! The colors remind me of a fancy candy bar lol, I like it !!!!!!!!

Thanks, Bill!! ☺️

I’m a huge fan of earth tones…not sure if that is a product of loving being outside and in the wilderness, but I’ve always been drawn to earth tones.

Thank you for the kind words.

One day I’ll be as good as you, John & Dave. :)
That is the goal, anyways.
