Not a lot of time in the shop lately but got these two martingale/breastcollars done. These attach to the saddle, going around the horse's chest and help hold it in place while in steep country. Also great for roping as it allows ya to drag a calf more comfortably. Here Nichole is using one on Clancy, many years ago.

These two are made from 8/10 oz Wickett and Craig chestnut saddle skirting, (one roughout and one smoothout) and lined with 8/9 oz water buffalo. All strapping is water buffalo too. The smoothout one is oversized and is designed to fit a draft cross type horse. The roughout one is my normal pattern. Making one of these in smoothout will make you a believer in power burnishing and edge finishing as there are 330 inches of edges to finish. The oversized one would be even more of course. I generally offer two types of hardware, brass or stainless. Tough to find everything ya need these days.

damn, that's some sexy leather^

That looks great Greg! Thinking of ya the other day as it occurred to me that hadn't seen ya a round much. I'm liking the paracord.

Thanks, Dave! I appreciate the kind words. And thanks for thinking of me. I've been a bit scarce around the forum over the fall and winter, but am starting to get settled back in.

Course been busy with the lil guy too:

UKFJ8Vs.jpg

Getting him started on being halter broke.

We were gone for a few days too. Made a flying dash up to central NV last Tuesday. 5 hours up for us and 5 hours down for my son and his wife. We met in Alamo NV and he and I swapped horses, one of mine for one of his. Turned around and come back. Then Thursday and Fri we went north here in Ca a couple three hours outside of Clovis. We'd sent Nichole's three year old filly off to Chino Valley in AZ for a couple of months of training. The trainer was putting on a clinic here in Clovis and he hauled the filly back for us. On the day before the clinic he was able to spend a lot of time with Nichole and working with the horse. Nichole and our friend Jeff that did the training. Nichole is on her three year old filly Hatari. For M Macan notice that Hatari is wearing what we call a hackamore on her nose that the reins attach too. These are braided rawhide or in this case softer latigo. No bit in the horses mouth.

It is pretty cool stuff , different too. Doesn’t like wet molding too much though. I’ll be making another one of these. But I’m going to deepen the carry insert more on that one 👍
