What are you watching & why? (splain)

I watched a movie last night that, for lack of a more suitable descriptor, I found to be contemplative. It's called Train Dreams, which is based on a novella of the same name.

I think many here might find it boring, so I hesitate to recommend it. However, I found it compelling and strangely deep, and the PNW setting just added to the appeal for me.
Agree. I loved it. Denis Johnson's novella from which it is adapted (as you mention) is a gorgeous piece of writing.

I've been semi-binge-watching Goliath for the past two weeks. I really like Billy Bob, even though it seems like he plays the same character in everything he does. He does it well though. I'm on the final season now. I'm not normally into court dramas but the character development in this series really makes you relate to them.
I like Goliath more than Landman.

I recall reading that in the scene where the dog chases Josh Brolin's character, they were having a hard time getting the dog to chase him and look sufficiently vicious. So Brolin supposedly went over to the catering truck, grabbed a steak, let the dog sniff it and then shoved it down his pants and started running while the cameras rolled. And then of course they threw some in edits of the dog snarling on top of that. Or so the story goes.
