What are you watching & why? (splain)

Just started binge watching old episodes of "Inkmaster" on Pluto TV. Why?

Because it's THERE and, while I've wanted to get a tattoo for many years, this program showed me why I shouldn't get ANY tattoos because even the BEST tattoo artist can F*CK up badly. So, while I love to look at "skin art," I've still never gotten inked myself.

Besides that, there's so much DRAMA on the show, it's just extremely amusing to watch. LOL! ;)

Now watching upload on prime

Interesting show kind of a comedy based on the idea in the future once you pass your consciousness can be uploaded to something similar to a resort

I've got Prime. Heard about "Upload" but have been too busy binge watch other old shows.

Will take a look at it later tonight.

-------------------------------------

Update #1:

Just took a look and entirely forgot that I've already watched Season 1 of "Upload" but I'll probably have to watch Season 1 again to "catch up" before I start watching Season 2. Good thing that I'm retired and have a lot of time on my hands. LOL! :)

-------------------------------------

Update #2:

So I caught back up w/Season 1 of "Upload" (mostly just "skimmed" it) and watched all of Season 2. Relatively easy to do since the episodes are only 30 mins long.

Pretty silly "plot" but somehow it "works" for me.

When I don't like a show (or movie), I usually turn it off w/in a few minutes but I've stuck w/"Upload," mainly because I think the lead female playing Nora (Andy Allo) is "cute" (definitelyl my "type" even though I've over 2x's older than her) and much "hotter" to me than the crazy girlfriend.

Yeah, I'm a dirty old man. LOL! ;)

They've set up "Upload" for a Season 3 which, now that I've invested so much time into watching Seasons 1/2, I hope happens.

-------------------------------------

Currently debating whether to sign up for a "free" 7 day trial to Sundance or AMC+ to watch Season 3 of The Discovery of Witches. Will probably do that next week when I clear my "calendar" so that I can watch all 7 episodes of Season 3 in a couple of days and then cancel the "trial subscription."

That's because{Matrix Resurrections] terrible. 🤮

Well, after multiple attempts, I was finally able to watch ALL of Matrix Resurrections and I have to agree that it's "terrible."

Apart from the weak plot and crippling dependence on the "love affair" between Neo and Trinity, there were no decent scenes displaying the beauty and uniqueness of San Francisco, where the film location was supposedly set, which was a great disappointment to this native San Franciscan.

So, as is the case for most movies that are remade repeatedly, the The Matrix (#1) is still the best of the series in my opinion. Just had to watch/keep Matrix IV for the same of completeness.

Hopefully, John Wick IV will be far better than Matrix IV. ;)

The Matrix in 4K UHD is an incredible experience. The new audio in Dolby Atmos is extremely impressive in my 5.1.4 home theater setup.

If you say so.

FWIW, I have a surround sound system w/a center channel sound bar and subwoofer and enjoy the audo pyrotechnics on those movies that provide them but I don't judge the "quality" of a movie based on them. A lousy movie will be lousy whether it "sounds" GREAT or not.

I had some small Klipsch speakers on my old TV that don't work with the new one. I really need to find a new wireless sound system, the sound from the TV is pretty lame.

The downside of flat screen TVs is definitely the weak ass speakers. I once picked up (from the trash) a high end Sony rear projection TV. The speakers/sound system was so good that even after the video portion of it died I kept it for two years just to play my music.

There aren't any good wireless systems out there. You'll still need a way to power the speakers, so you'll have to run a power cord or keep replacing batteries. It's usually easier to run wires along a baseboard, etc.

Sound bar is the way to go, unless you are looking for surround.

I'm looking at the Klipsch cinema 400. They're powered from the wall but attached to the TV by bluetooth rather than old school wire connectors. The new TV doesn't accept the old stuff, it wants bluetooth wireless connection. Which is dumb. IMO.

Just watched the 2022 Academy Awards last night . . . because I'm a movie buff but it was pretty lame. Here' are coupl random thoughts about it.

1) How is it possible to give awards for movies that so few people have seen?

Coda "won" for "Best Picture" and a deaf actor in the filmwon the award for "Best Supporting Actor" but the film is only available to watch on AppleTV+ which you have to pay to subscribe to, the movie was never shown in theaters and the movie is not available on DVD.

So, apparently the only people who so it were those willing to pay a ransom to Apple to do so.

2) Why didn't Chris Rock file a battery charge against Will Smith?

Smith committed a crime on national TV and then cried crocidile tears to try to excuse it. Lame. If he can't take it, he shouldn't be in the business.

Besides, I didn't think he deserved the "Best Actor" award for "King Richard" (one of the few of the nominated movies that I saw) and, if I were "in charge" I would have stripped him of the award after his atrocious display of bad behavior.

3) Dune won 6 Oscars -- all in "technical" categories but more than any other film. Going to have to watch that movie again.

4) I almost exclusively watch movies on DVD at home. I usually get them around 3 months after their theatrical or online "release" but there are still movies that were mentioned at ast year's Academy Awards -- such as Mank and Ma Rainey's Black Bottom -- that still haven't been "released."

So, who knows (or cares) when, if ever, I'll see Coda? Oh well . . . 🤷‍♂️

Haven't bothered watching the Oscars since at least the 90s, after realizing that it was nothing more than an industry circle jerk of patting each other on the back, and showing how 'tasteful' the 'judges' are.

Not that it needed a nail in the coffin for me, but this definitely does it:

"Hey, let's not judge movies based on their merits and content, but instead, disqualify anything that doesn't fit our agenda". 🙄

As a kid I really enjoyed the Oscars. Remember watching in 1974 when David Niven was presenting and a streaker ran across the stage au naturel. That was funny. "The Sting" won best picture back when they used to award good pictures that folks actually saw and liked.

But years ago they made a hard left turn and decided only to give the major awards to the strangest movies that no one saw, and I checked out (along, apparently, with millions of others). Didn't see the awards or "King Richard" but I have seen Will Smith act plenty, and if he is Best Actor then Amy Schumer should be Miss America.

Meanwhile, back on topic of what I am watching instead of what I'm NOT watching . . .

Saw "Death on the Nile" last week. First movie I've seen in a theater in many months. Why? Big fan of mysteries, including Hercule Poirot mysteries. And unlike Will Smith, Kenneth Branagh actually CAN act - and is terrific in this movie (which he also directed). He was good in his remake of "Murder On the Orient Express" (which I surprisingly enjoyed), but he is even quite a bit better here.

I enjoyed the movie a lot - even though I "figured it out" pretty early. My only criticism is that I think it took way too much time setting up the murder - It seems like half the movie was over before the "Death" occurred.

As a sidenote, I was perversely amused by the way the Marketing Folks tried to ghost Armie Hammer from the trailers / teasers for this film after claims of sexual abuse and cannibalistic fetishism were made against him, including allegations of nonconsensual BDSM, rape, and physical and emotional abuse. He is now as canceled from the film industry as canceled can be, but it was ridiculous to try to hide his appearance in this film. If you saw the ads for the film, he was barely in them and you easily might not even notice he is in the film or assume he has a very minor role, when in fact he has a top four role in the picture - arguably second lead after Branagh. If his role had been minor they might have reshot his scenes like Ridley Scott did with Kevin Spacey in "All the Money in the World." But in this case they would have had to reshoot almost the entire film. FWIW, if they had, I think Jon Hamm would have been an excellent replacement.
