What brands WON'T you own?

In addition I see nothing in the language of the revocation about mislabeling country of origin. Can you point that out to me?

Am not going to debate you tomcrx, nor am I going to attempt to provide pre-digested information for you to chew on....do some digging...you'll find it.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Will never own another SOG, and i will not ever buy anything from ontario. RAT CUTLERY all the way! also nothing like the wanna be military mall ninja crap aka dark ops and the like.

We live in a global society - and have priced our labor so high that we can't afford to make many products we consume here any more. Some products persist - and my loyalty will as well - while it can. Thank goodness for the likes of Bark River K&T, Benchmade, Buck, Busse, Gerber (Yes, they still have a few made here!) Kershaw, and Spyderco in knives, not to mention S&W, Ruger, Henry, and Marlin, for decent firearms. I was able to buy a decent table top short wave receiver this year - made in Ohio by PALSTAR, Inc, oddly enough. Yep, my TV uses foreign components, as does my Jeep. I cannot do much to alter the world's economy, especially back in our favor, but I can symbolically try, even if my communications are via a Taiwaneese/PRC/Korean computer. I, like many Americans, have some national pride, no matter whether some accuse us of screaming at windmills or not. I'll likely keep hollering.

Never heard of Dark Ops before until this thread. Visited their site and it made me laugh to the point of hysteria.
Having finally calmed down, I can state with authority I will never buy a knife of theirs. If am ever given one, I will use it to murder the kind giver. No harm will be done, as the knife will most likely fail.

I would like to add one particular brand that I will probably not buy again, and I'll need to explain:

Klotzli.

So, I have 3 Klotzlis (Walker 05, Walker 06 and Sailor), and I do think that thy are great products. Production quality, fit and finish are without exaggeration on Chris Reeve level. A Sebenza is even sturdier, these Klotzlis are more positioned as strong and dependable, well made gentlemen knives. In that context they are wonderful. I bought them from an English dealer when the pound approximately equalled the Euro, and they were a good (not cheap, but value) buy then.

So why won't I buy them again? Well, it seems from links posted in German and French forums, or for example here, that the proprietor, Hans Peter Klotzli is an active Scientology member. Now I don't want anything to do with that dangerous cult, and I hate the idea that some my my money percolated to them.
I wouldn't have reacted like this for knives by makers from any "real" religion.

I don't like scientology any more than you do. But that site scares me more than the sect does... If its administrators sold knives, I would not buy from THEM either! :p

I 'spect asking for a definition here would stir up a big scrap so I won't do it. No applause, please, I'll gladly provide my paypal info via PM to those who wish to thank me.

Strider, because of Mick's past transgressions.

Cold Steel, because I think they have a generally inferior and over-priced product, and I don't like their marketing tactics.

I've noticed a few of you have said you wouldn't buy from Bark River. I'm just curious why...one guy said because they don't have decent size handles...a legitimate reason. But, what about you others, is it because you don't like the Bark River company for a certain reason, or you don't like their products.

I ask, because I've been considering buying a couple of their knives. After reading on their forums, I was under the impression that the owner is a stand-up guy and most people really love their products...so I'm just curious and hoping you can elaborate a little.
I won't buy from Bark River because the web page is full of capitalization errors
Looks unprofessional..IMHO
The Bark River Canadian Guide Series of knives has been inspired by the 19th Century Russell Knives of our Canadian and Northern U.S. History and tradition. These Distinctive Arched Back Blade Shapes were the Backbone of the North American Trappers and Fur Gatherers of the mid and late Fur Trading Period. We have Modernized the Designs — Given them a Sleeker Feel and improved their efficiency
Hell, I'd edit it for him for a free knife though!!

From what I've seen and heard, any reports to the contrary would be removed. That other site doesn't have the same adherence to a "no delete" policy as BFC.

I've only seen this last page, but maybe I should read the rest, because the above post will darn sure keep me from ever buying a Klotzli !!!

edit- forgot to add I wouldn't buy these

After all the discussion, why are the premier American made brands on the top of so many WON"T buy list? Better American than handing your cash to some foreign government worker, right?

If you won't buy them, they go under, and the amount of stuff we get overseas increases to fill the market gap.

American makers are under the gun - Buck couldn't afford to stay in LA and moved, right? When will the public perceive them as overpriced and start buying Chinese?

ALREADY HAS, same for Benchmade and Spyderco. The three premier American brands are knuckling under to keep the doors open a little longer. But this thread shows who won't even buy them.

All sorts of justifications, but when it comes down to "Buy American" as the priority, it's not happening. "They offend me!" becomes the rallying cry.

It's a quandry. We buy on price, not quality, but if it's American, it better be perfect every time, or it's crap, and we won't buy it.

The attitude that its "good enough" for the price and the same attitiude for the business plan "will not succeed" As others are producing an equal or better perfect product for less money and the majority of people will buy where they pay less and get more.

I am required to perform properly, deliver quality and value in my work and I take pride in what I do. I will accept no less.

Tirod3- The three American companies you just mentioned, Buck, BM, and Spyderco, all use Chinese manufacturing. Nowadays, you just have be informed about where you are spending your money.

If we don't support their foreign products, it ceases to be "good business" for companies to exploit them. My list:

Will buy:
Domestic Spyderco's
Domestic Benchmade's
Domestic Kershaw's
etc.
