What brands WON'T you own?

So what you guys are telling me is that you wouldn't buy a blade from a company for other reasons even if the Quality was extremely high and clearly better than other choices available assuming the prices are in line?

What I am saying is you have many options when it comes to choosing a knife. You can be selective based on personal preferences.

So you would buy a sub par product then knowing it is in fact sub par compared to the other choices?

Your scenario does not exist. I do not have to buy sub-par just to avoid liars, felons, racists, and such, there are companies and individual makers that have not been mentioned in this thread because they are honest and make a good product. Too much of the price tag on the high end is for the name, image, or features that have nothing to do with what a good knife does - cuts.

No I have many options and I would buy the best product based on my personal views.

So that means if there are even higher quality products available that a lot better you wouldn't buy them?

This is all hypothetical here assuming prices are inline etc.

Just trying to see the mind set here that's all.

No, I think you like to argue for the sake of arguing.

Bottom line, there are plenty of high quality knives out there that you can buy and still have a clear conscience.

It is all hypothetical really, personally I don't care who people buy from or not and I am not a fan boy of any one company.

Just wondering beacuse I haven't seen many reasons why not because of quality, it has been other things other than that.

There are a lot more factors other than the ones you describe when buying a knife. Almost all of them are assumptions, but then they have been hashed over so many times in the past they aren't worth bringing up again. ;)

Everyone has an opinion though.

That's were I get lost, clear conscience about what? LOL

Never mind, too much politics for me. ROFL

Well said, you demonstrate, a very diplomatic way of expressing your views, gently avoiding not so subtle attempts to be pulled into a devolving thread!

A smilie doesn't make it ok...

Some of us put more value on things other than a good knife.
Don't we all? What matters is what you choose. My point is, if you choose a cult, or a sect (and that is always in the eye of the beholder) as a criterion then again, depending on how you look at things, most people on the planet are not eligible to sell you a knife. Nor anything else probably, for that matter.

if you wish to classify all religions as cults, and not differentiate their current practices, I suppose you are right

I don't necessarily want that, I added a disclaimer (twice).
But there were quite a few cults once that are now major established religions. Would scientology become 'respectable' if half a billion people subscribed to it? And the obverse can of course also be questioned...

Let's not go into politics. I will desist here.

There are three companies that I won't a knife from

1.) Leatherman for reasons I've mentioned in the Political Forum.

2.) Tops-only because of the way they treated Dave Beck when the Tracker movie came out. I thought it was kind of petty.

3.) There is a third company that ruined a knife I sent in for repair, but as the owner has apologized, I'm not going to mention them-just wouldn't buy their knives again.

I just started knives as a hobby and collecting. So far my main barrier to what I won't buy is price--nothing over $50 at this time as I get to know knife performance better. Otherwise, still open to about anything if in the price range. So far everything I have gotten has been decent and that includes CRKT, Gerber, Spyderco (Byrd), Cold Steel (Bushman), and Buck. And yes, I buy the foreign made knives.

I was using the small-ish CRKT M16-10K EDC for everyday cutting chores. Found it just was not up to the job so I ordered Ka Bar's Dozier Bobcat which I really plan to abuse and test out. But the CRKT knife will find a happy home as a spare knife in my gun bag.

Also, very interesting "non-performance" reasons for not buying from certain companies. I would add my 2cents. Be careful what you wish for--stuff gets complicated and ironic. My impression is that many people will not buy Chinese knives as their personal effort to support jobs in America. I applaud that as my first new car was purchased for that same reason. But the reality is that what supports and creates American jobs is industrial trade policies, tariffs, trade agreements, and tax laws. Many will not buy if companies support "lefty" causes. Well, guess what, the group supporting gun rights and "righty causes" has been primarily responsible for sending millions upon millions of jobs overseas as that group of people, while loving gun rights and hating lefties, apparently loves corporate profits more than the American worker. And guess what, most lefties oppose those policies. Be careful what you wish for--it could be your job.

Just sayin.

frost united mtech budk brand boker plus . i dont know why everybody hates gerber so much ive had nothing but good experience with them.

I wouldnt buy any of the new gerbers
Dont like most crkt's
Dont know why anyone would ever even consider buying a dark ops knife
A lot of people seem to not like sogs and thats fine but I fail to see how a flash 2 is overpriced you can pick them up for $40

Hi, highly controversical thread but interesting : Benchmade and CRKT for me.
BM : full of objective qualitys, but a strange feeling when discovering a new model each time, lack of soul, not the smallest charisma, 'mass production', 'déjà vu' feel, like the guy first in its classroom, but you simply nothing have to say to him. Exception is : the Al Mar automatic produced by BM.
CRKT : nice innovations and design but the same feeling , plus a low quality. Exception : find a CRKT Sebenza with zytel lock !
Please excuse my english ;)
