What brands WON'T you own?

I've only seen this last page, but maybe I should read the rest, because the above post will darn sure keep me from ever buying a Klotzli !!!

edit- forgot to add I wouldn't buy these

Wow! Are they Scientologists too? Who'd a thunk it? Prolly need to get them dastardly dudes tattooed up with a symbol of some kind so we can spot 'em easier. :p

Yes, well, my Klotzli experience is quite frustrating as the knives are truly made to a very high standard. I like them a lot. But... finding out that I gave money to Scientology! The horror! The horror!

Otherwise, the country of production doesn't matter that much to me. Good products deserve to succeed. Or should I as a European rather only buy German-made Bokers, Finnish Rosellis and Martiinis, Swedish EKAs, Italian FKMDs and Vipers, or French Fontenille-Patauds and not buy any US-made knives anymore? All these companies make great products, and I enjoy using them. But, no Spyderco Manix 2, no Kershaw Tyrade then? After all, buying one of these would take sales and work away from a European vendor. That would be a consistent attitude to many opinions voiced here...

Don't you think you're exaggerating just a little? "Giving money to scientology?" I think even members of that weird sect need to eat and pay the rent, have their kids go to school and pay the medical bills before they donate whatever's left to the church's plans for world domination...

Don't forget about the Boker-Klotzi carbon fiber liner locks that were made. :p

That's when CF was getting hot and Walker's lock was getting huge.
I had a couple of those, I think I sold them to a buddy. Smooth openers.

I admit, you have a point there.
Or at least a good excuse for me to fully enjoy my 3 Klotzli knives :)

Nope, did I say they were:confused:

I dislike them for other reasons if that makes you feel any better.

This thread is a must read for all knife makers out there. People are quirky. They have many prejudices, but the two taboo ones out there are religion and politics. Know your audience. It's a safe bet that knife enthusiasts would be for gun rights, but if it's known that a company supports a controversial group like the Scientologists, it's going to have an effect, most likely a negative one.

Now that being said, this is America, so people are free to support whatever cause. But a lot of people think that "Freedom of Speech" means "Freedom of Speech without consequence."

No, you're free to say anything except "FIRE!" in crowded theater, but whatever you say will be interpreted or misinterpreted by everyone, so if you want to keep your core market demo, be careful with what you, or your representatives say!

Regarding the scientology talk, I would honestly not spend any money on knives designed by member of a insane, brainwashing and criminating "religious" cult.

Well, depending on your view on life, that could mean the 'better' part of humanity would be precluded from selling knives... But maybe we should not go there...

I am not sure what Religion has to do with whether they can make good knives or not.

The only brands I won't own are brands that produce not a single design I like, or ones that use materials I find to be subpar.

It's my ethics, and my nature. Just like I wouldn't buy from utterly unpleasant person (ie asshole). Surely, I don't know any scientologists to swore blood-oath against them, but a brainwashing bogus cult turns me off.

I wholeheartedly suggest you to check out the facts of the cult if you haven't.

But that being said, I don't want this to go argument. Just pointing my view of it.

Personally I could care less if they worship an Oak Tree as long as they make high quality blades.

It's none of my business what or who they believe in.

People get too carried away with the politics and other things and miss out on what should be important to all of us IMO....

High Quality blades.

Some of us put more value on things other than a good knife.

So what you guys are telling me is that you wouldn't buy a blade from a company for other reasons even if the Quality was extremely high and clearly better than other choices available assuming the prices are in line?

Not pointing out any company really, it's just a general question. :)

Not brand-specific, but I won't buy anything Made in China. Just a gut-feeling but one that's important enough for me. I can afford knives from Japan (hey, those guys know how to make steel) and the USA, so why bother?
