What did you rehang today?

Cleaned and rehung a nice Craftsman boys axe tonight. I cleaned and restored a couple other items as well this evening.

Is that pocket knife a Western?

The cast iron, a Griswold and a Wagner?

Oh, and just to stay on topic, beautiful Craftsman!

Is the term "rehang" used only when replacing an axe handle? Don't want to embarrass myself and say ..."I rehung a hammer today"...:o

Nope, it's called hanging because a tool head hangs upside down on the end of a handle while the butt of it smacked to drive the handle through the eye of the head. Mostly the only tools with a steel head and wooden handle that you don't hang are socketed such as shovels ...ect or those with a tomahawk eye.

quick question, whats a good handle length for a swamping legitimus? is it like a puget sound with a 40 or just a normal 30 or so?

I have never had a Swedish axe. So just recently I bought a "Swedish military surplus new axe" from the SG and wondered what would show up at my door. I was extatic to end up with a Sater Banko that just needed some tlc.*

As received-

Cleaned up and rehung a little closer to the shoulder-

Honestly, for $20 I am thrilled!

You should be. It's a fine looking axe with good pedigree.

Thanks Pegs! With surplus items, you just never know what you will end up with.

Question for you, if you don't mind: since I'm a novice, I made the silly mistake of cutting a new wedge out of pine but with the grain instead of against. It split when I drove it in so I filled the split with some ash. Should I be worried about this hang or just monitor how tight the head stays over time?

Hung this mini Norlund Hudson Bay on a hickory handle today, I really want to keep this one to use but it's in basically perfect condition so I could sell it, but a different one of the same size and have a lot left over still. Decisions decisions...

@phantomknives I have a legitimus swamped and it's hung on a 30 something, I want to say a 36 but I'm not exactly sure, it's not any bigger than that. I can check tomorrow but it looks plenty good on it, no need to go any bigger unless you really want to

Was that pic before the head was completely seated ? Cause that thing still has quite a ways to go.
