What did you rehang today?

Finished this today. Head is 1lb 5oz on a 16" handle. This handle was an odd duck at 16" and fit the eye of a boys axe. It was thick too. So I did some heavy modifications and like the way it turned out.

I really like those lugged hatchets. I need to find one for myself.

Rehung these two. 3 3/4 Emery waterhouse SB and a James H Mann hatchet, the hatchet is being sold to my roommate the SB is mine to keep and use.

That's a nice looking setup!

Thanks!

^yea that's really cool. jersey/rockaway hatchet ..I want one.

Thanks, I felt lucky to get this one, you just don't see many vintage USA hatchets with lugs.

Hopefully you can pick one up soon!

Rockman0, that thing is awesome!

Thanks COTS! I'm planning on putting it to use this coming Saturday.

I got this hatchet head a few month's back for 50 cents and it turned out to be made in China.
Anyways the Steel is decent so I decided that I'll give it to my brother for Christmas, he's rough on stuff to say the least and he'll just be using it to make kindling for the fire place so it should be perfec for him.
The eye is pretty irregular inside so it was a major pain in the ass to counter correct for this when fitting the handle, plus the edge isn't perfectly straight. I was able to get the head hung perfectly perpendicular though and I got the perfect amount of cant to it. There may be a chance that I can grind the edge straight but It's not a huge deal.
The only handle that would fit is a 16" riggers axe handle so that's what I went with.

I still need to slim it down some, but it is hung.

I reshaped and thinned down the handle, and now it looks less like a straight axe handle and more like a hammer handle. I also took my wood burner and burned in a duck ( ducky was his nickname when he was little and he kept trying to change it to picachu )
I'll take a picture tomorrow.

Here's how that handle turned out and I think it's much better than it was, especially since it was horribly way too fat before.

Thanks 👍
Last year for Christmas my brother was building me an rc car he acquired , but then he ended up selling it to another friend who needed the chassis as they're discontinued 😳 He was always an Indian giver growing up so I never expected him to finish building it, but I don't mind.
For a total of 7$ plus a little work this really isn't a bad kindling maker, and I just know he'll get lots of use out of it.

Man that's a no nice one Rockman0! It's a shame you don't see more lugged hatchets around, I'd definitely love to pick one up.

I've got heads that have been laying on the bench for a year that I just haven't gotten around to hanging. I was so excited when I got this one I ran outside the first morning off work and went to work on it. Now I just need to find a boys axe with lugs. Hard to find those too.

I've not come across a hatchet with lugs. Rockman, the handle on yours is as interesting as the head by the way.
