Here's a few of the finished axe. Inside pictures so they still don't show the grain as much as I'd like. This ash really soaked up the blo!View attachment 1085033 View attachment 1085034 View attachment 1085035 View attachment 1085036 View attachment 1085037I'll stop bogarting the page now. Haha. I'm off to make a mask for it. Have a great night all!
That is a sweet combo. Doesn't get much better than that! Looks like a perfect hang too! That db is in great shape. Westerns are my favorite db bit pattern. That a 36" haft?
This was a handle I found at the flea market. It is a NOS 100% heartwood handle. Sticker was orange and was a “king..... something”. Also said “flame hardened”. Leaf spring grain, no run out super thin with a big swell! I still need to do some file work on the head where someone beat on it but I am super happy with the hang! Thanks for looking!!
Wow just when i thought it couldn't get any better... that is PERFECT! I don't know about you but it's real hard for me to pick a favorite axe. It's usually the one I've just hung.I agree yankee, westerns for sure! And no it is around 32.5”. I’m about 6,4” so it should swing well. I just need to get out in the woods haha. Thanks I appreciate it!
Miller, both those are great! That Vaughn cruiser is especially nice.
This is a nice small boy's axe size fire axe on a 26" handle.

And a Dunn Edge axe/brush hook on an oak handle.![]()
I always intuitively doubt them, but they always seem to be rock solid.I like how you used the old cap wedge in there. First thing I thought when I saw the first pic was "how is wedging that?"
Good use of the material.
That is a beauty axe, and a quality hang. I think a DB TT needs to be in everyone’s collection.

What a beauty. The hang is fantastic. I would take that to my grave as well!I did file and hone it... couldn't help myself. I'm probably going to keep it till I'm dead and i can't stand to look at a dull axe that long. Rehung it yesterday without the steel cap wedge. I have it set aside and marked as it might be original.![]()

And one of the tool on it. The "swellsaver". I'll have to patent it! Hahaha. Yeah right, after i posted images for the world to see. Lol.

I hope you are all having a great weekend!
Edit; i wanted to add that as you can see, in the photo of the eye that, a previous owner clamped this in a vice with no wood... left vice marks top and bottom. So i wasn't too worried about marking it up a tad by cutting and then sanding it flush. If it had been pristine I obviously would have gone another route.
I love truck fire axes. The hatchet sized guys are belts, these are trucks, and obviously full sized ones are full size. This is a nice small boy's axe size fire axe on a 26" handle.
