What do you REALLY carry every day?

Lets see I'm at work right now... Strider AR , fenix P3D, Mission wallet with Space pen, Gasbaby, band aids, paper and cash.

At home ALWAYS one knife and a Surefire , most of the time a Beretta Tomcat .32 too.

Out of the house bigger gun wallet and phone.

I never carry my keys or wallet at work or home, and I'm proud to say I don't own a watch !!

Not to besmirch your choice, but a .22 mag from a 1" or 1 5/8th's" barrel launching a 40 grain bullet (max) isn't even close to a .38. Even when said .38 is fired from a 2" barrel launching a 125 to 158 grain bullet.

If your gun dealer really thinks that it does, then I'd never ask him anything serious about guns again !

I acknowledge that any gun with you is better than any gun not. But that does not mean any gun will do the job.

Too many people think that "a gun is a gun is a gun...." meaning that a .22 is just "as good" as a .45. It's not. altho the mouse gun beats a harsh word....most of the time!

.

:D

A.40 ,.44 or .45 is the way to really put a man down but my G I .45 revolver

hand cannon'd wear a callus on you 'cause it's no lightweight.

A throat or head shot with the .22 mag should get a punk's attention.

Uncle Alan :D

No, but a S&W Model 642 is only 15 oz, while the 340 weighs 12 oz. Hardly callous worthy, but light years ahead of a single action .22 magnum.

Usually, yes. But at what distance? what time frame ? Even if you do make the surgical placement that you'll need, it's rather optimistic to presume the punk isn't high, drunk, crazy or any combination thereof.

I do have a comical story of ONE time where a NAA revolver did stop an attacker, but he was a rather accommodating badguy.

The Minis are popular with a lot of the old guys around here. A couple of the local agencies used to issue High Standard 22mag double action derringers as backups back in the 70s / 80s and supposedly they were surprisingly effective at getting somebody off of you. I am not advocating them as a primary carry gun, but a contact shot with a 22mag mini is pretty ugly.

No doubt.

But what if they're beyond contact range ?

What if they're 10 feet away and all you have is a partial head shot?

Just wondering !

All the usual bits and pieces like watch, wallet, phone.

And my head, your brain is the best EDC tool and weapon !!!

What is the make and color of your car? :D

I consider myself a "real person". I carry all the time, at minimum a pocket gun. If I'm up and awake, I have a gun on me, and two knives, some sort of folder, and a SAK Explorer.

If I'm going out and about away from my immediate neighborhood, I do carry two guns, in a shoulder rig of my own construction, as well as a shotgun in my vehicle, unless I'm going on a long trip, then I replace the shotgun with an environment appropriate long gun, as well as a "go bag" behind my seat if I have to unass the vehicle and move, or render first aid to myself or someone else.

Why do it? If I'm in a fight, I want to overwhelm the bad guy/guys with a storm of lead, and win the fight. It's that simple.

Does that make me weird?

Same with me.
I have a shotgun in the truck loaded with slugs with extra ammo.
In Hurricanes or emergency that changes to a black rifle.
Keep 4 glock 18 mags loaded w an old G17.
Wear either a Kimber Gold Match a Glock 26 and have a P3AT for beach wear.
Have a good 20 custom fighting knifes that I use for weapon retention.
Never take off my tiny Yurko neck knife.
Also have two highly trained Beligian Malinois protection dogs.

Why?
Besides living in Miami where every day is an adventure.
I have no intention of letting Jihadists get away with anything.

To answer the root question here, because I don't like being dependent upon others. Especially when most others are unable to even depend on themselves!

Case in point: I went to a church group get together, about 20 of us. Someone brought watermelon, but no knife to cut it. The watermelon was untouched for hours.

Why?

Because NO ONE HAD A KNIFE to cut it open.

I lost track of the people that touched and rolled the watermelon, looking for a knife.....that they expected SOMEONE ELSE to bring.

That all changed, of course, when _I_ decided to have some watermelon! I cut some for everyone and it was gone.

This is a simple example that involved no shots fired or bloodletting, but what if something serious were to come up? Should I rely on others to rescue me?

No, thanks, I'll take responsibility for my own safety.

.

Right on.
We had two cops killed in 2 days here.
I be protecting myself, thank you very much.

That's quite a load, alright. 1966 fps !

I didn't see where they showed what gun it was fired from. A Model 27 with 8 3/8th's" barrel, or a Thompson Center Encore 14" perhaps ?

Have you been able to chrono yours ?

.
1600 out of a 4 " barrel 1800 out of a 6" barrel 2100-2200 out a 16" marlin lever action. It is a heck of a round.

When I go to work, I actually carry the following:
McLux III PD
Brad Duncan Mini-Whiplash
Charkes May Fireant
Palm TX PDA
Nokia cell. phone.
vehicle keys.
wallet
watch
pill fob with my medicine in it.
That IS about it for my work EDC.

Just at home, I have my Anso Rebel, Fireant & McLux III PD.

If I am going out, I will add a firearm. I may add a second flashlight, or I may not.

Wow ! I'll be buying some H110 or 296 (allegedly the same powder in different packaging. The site you provided showed identical max loads and velocities) and trying some of those. (I did way back when, pre-chrono days)

It'll be interesting and fun !

.

Get ready for hard recoil and one heck of a fireball. You go through a lot of powder since it is a compressed powder charge.

I have some pictures of .357 loads using 296 powder taken at night........it's not THAT big of a fireball, being about 14" x 24".......but it sure is bright.

I work in the Intel Community.

I have for many years, even when on Active Duty.

So...I merely dream of the day when I can reclaim the many personal rights I surrendered decades ago...and can carry my knives again.

Sigh.

Besides the regular stuff like wallet, flashlight, watch, etc.:

- Taurus Model 455 revolver (5 rounds of .45 ACP) with 2" barrel, 4 reloads: 25 rounds, total
- Spyderco Police Model
- 5" fixed-blade coming soon (not sure which one yet, prolly my Ontario, 'cause I'm not rolling in dough right now).

5 rounds doesn't seem like much, but the sights are so good on this revolver, plus many hours practicing with my wife's j-frame .38 means that I can put the rounds where I want 'em. If that 230-grain bullt doesn't take the bad guy out of the fight...???
Plus, the rounds are loaded in moon clips, which makes reloading really fast.

Now, I need knife training.

G26 (w/ finger extension) in a CTAC holster
Extra Mag
LeatherMan Wave
Endura 4 Wave
RJ Martin Dominator
Rayovac 3 Watt LED
LG Cell Phone
Nautica Wallet

My EDC changes every month, but this is my latest setup.
