What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Come on, there's GOT to be a large run of of the two-bladed ebony! That's beautiful enough to deserve a full run.
I certainly hope so, too! That's exactly what I'd like to drop into my pocket, and there's no way I'll be able to snap one up if there are only 9 made!!!

GEC is assembling a second color Sawcut Barlow today. They got a deeper sawcut on this one - it's a nice tan color!

Ooooh, that's just classic. Love the deeper sawcut. That's going to age beautifully!

I like your vision!:) It will look great when it is pocket worn. Inspires a thread!

Thanks Robin and ~P!
There is one more color coming down the pipe.
I heard they are just polishing them as I write this. I might even get a pic before closing;
4:30 eastern time.

I noticed the pins are spun, are they going to be hammered? They look to be at surface level for the most part. ;-))

Best regards

Robin,

Earlier in this thread (page 10 in the Waynorth, I mean, Wayback Machine), Charlie noted:

Another GEC picture:

I heard they might start assembly this week. They are working out the bugs before they open the flood gates.
Latest details:
1)One other color of bone (although I like this one!) . . . . .
2)Trouble with hand peening of the rivets. Looks like the rivets will be spun, like this one pictured.
Too many cracks otherwise. . . . .

3)We should see Ebony soon. . . . . .

Spun, they be.

Yes, thanks for bringing that forward, ~P.
Peening the rivets caused too many broken handles. It takes the finest touch of a master cutler to consistently peen without chipping or cracking the bone. The master cutler also has to keep in practice! We tried, but it just was not practical to continue! Sigh . . . . . . . .

I believe the three bone colors are:

copperhead sawcut (the first one)
tan sawcut
antique yellow sawcut

I really like the firs tone, the copperhead. I like the coloration of the bone at the top near the bolster where it looks like there are some spots where the dye seeped in just a little deeper, like veins in the bone sucking up the dye

Sorta like the hair in your avatar?

;)

It's funny-- I think the antique yellow and copperhead coloration is more beautiful (swoony!), but it's the tan that gives me chills.

Wow...I VERY much like that second colour, I think the first colour is strikingly beautiful-very much like Cases Red Bone, but when talking to a forum friend over the phone I was also admiring the two colours together-and I think the second Tan colour looks all over a extremely handsome looking knife!

I can only imagine the hard yards behind the scenes that you are doing Charlie-thanks from all of us.

I'm starting to hate this thread. But I can't stop looking. And I'm having impure thoughts.
