What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Since the nine ebony handled varieties will likely go quickly, what kind of production numbers are we looking at total? I imagine these will sell out if the run is smaller, for some reason the barlow pattern (not the #25 mind you, it's too small) is something of a must have it seems - from GEC.

I like the deeper sawcut better than the shallower (looks too slick for me).

Are there any size differences between the single and two bladed patterns and which is the sawyer?

From the looks of this thread, GEC will have to borrow some of Santa's elves and work a 24 hour shift to meet the demand for these Barlows. Charlie........you are a Prince among men, a gentleman and a scholar, and maybe even an odd duck.;)

Guilty as charged on that last description, Rob! Quack, quack!;)

They are all Sawyer Barlows, as Tom would have been proud to own any one of them! :D

Looks like we are topping out at about 200 knives Maloosik. 30 ebony (9-2blade + 21-1blade) 170 bone divided roughly in thirds, one third for each color.
50 of the 200 are two blades, and 150 are one blades.
They are all based on the exact same handle pattern, as are GEC's Huckleberry Jacks.
That's all I know so far!

Thanks Charlie and GEC for all your hard work. I'm in line for a two blade Sawyer with the Antique Yellow Sawcut. Let the waiting begin.

Wow, this thread just keeps gettin better. Way to go Charlie / GEC!!!

That tan deeper sawcut looks amazing. Kind of reminds me of an old Kabar barlow I once had... I still think the 2 blade in ebony is my favorite, can't get it outta my mind. Only one way to fix that I suppose, LOL. ;)

GEC is assembling a second color Sawcut Barlow today. They got a deeper sawcut on this one - it's a nice tan color!

This is the one:thumbup:

Gripped with fear that they'll all be sold out before I can get one, horror:eek:

I always thought that Barlow knives were not for me, cause I never really liked the bolster/handle proportion.
But, seeing a picture of the Huckleberry boys knife, the odds are that I might be taking this path as well...assuming I can find an ebony one

That Huckleberry looks a decent & unusual knife too!

Single blade would suit me fine and is that the glo-in-dark synthetic?? Hope so.

Any chance someone can direct me where to place an order at?

Thanks

This question is more appropriate as a PM or email to other members, or you could contact GEC directly. We like to keep the commercial aspect out of the traditional forum, when at all possible.
We allow the posting of Bladeforums member dealers, although we prefer to leave the forum for the discussion of knives, not where to buy them.

Taken from the sticky at the top of the main page:

Let's keep our threads focused on the discussion of traditional knives, not vendors and their web sites.

The exception to the rule above is that you may refer other members to dealers who support bladeforums.com via a "Dealer" membership."
