What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

My Grail. I love the Antique Amber. Can't find it anywhere. Maybe one day. I am so jealous! :D

Better get to carving if you have any hope of luring that one away from anyone Fred.:D

100 carved TC beads for a knife - are you kidding me?? :D:D:D:D:p

Getting that knife is like the Bengal winning the Superbowl. I can only hope it happens in my lifetime. :D

I've been extremely fortunate to have the ones I have now.

Anyway, can't talk, back to carving. :D

Jack, I am going to have to re-read some passages.
I thought a case-knife "folded into its case"? Hmmmmm?

Dave, you have a lot of collectors riveted to their computers!!

On the Pen-behind knives, we switched sides on the label with Tom and Huck, just like the blades switched sides in the knife!:D

Just for clarity, Knowtracks in your posts are the saddle brown and antique amber listed right? Maybe I'm reading it wrong. The amber is the lighter one correct? I just want to be sure I'm begging for the right one. :D

I re-read it again last year Charlie, and have spent some time wondering about case knives, but then just a couple of days ago, while reading the GEC book kindly sent to me by Dan, I came across this from the Encyclopaedia of Domestic Economy by Thomas Pain and Mrs Parkes (1855):

"The most ancient kind of knives were of a sort called case knives, having the blade stuck in the handle like desk penknives, and which require to be kept in a sheath. Coarse knives of this kind, termed whittles, were manufactured at Sheffield in 1575, and were sold at the low price of one penny; and at this time and earlier, the town was celebrated for its cutlery."

i think frogs are adorable
my wife however, would have probably just had a stroke, frogs/toads just creep her out.

true story, last night the wife opened the door to let the dogs out, and she screamed!! i thought a snake had slithered in the house ...nope, little toad
it was entirely too dramatic, loud and unnecessary but hey, i do love the crazy woman :D

Dang! I knew they were switched and just plumb forgot to add it into the description. :( I need to start making notes ahead of time so I can include all the nuances of the tube artwork. There's quite a bit of planning and forethought that went into the packaging and also more than you would think in trying to post it all. I'm sure Primble can testify. :D
I will try to keep my eye on the ball. ;)

Willydigger your bucket full is way cool! Like everyone else I just LOVE your carvings!
I think I need to edit my posts and put a little space in between the pics. The knife you posted is the Saddle Brown variation. I have been placing the title above the pic, but it seems to be confusing because you are not the 1st to draw the incorrect conclusion.
I will see what I can do to make my posts more reader friendly! :D

Dave
PS You would have to like the one I cut the tip off of cropping the photo! ;)
