What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

NYCKS coming up, I'm gonna pick up one of those old Remis if I can. Usually some good trad collections there.

You guys with the big vintage collections, which vintage Barlows hold up and make good users today?

Most of them if you inquire about the blade snap and look for the ones with full blades. The Remington, these two older Bokers, an older John Primble, and an old Shapleigh Diamond Edge that I own all have full blades, plenty of snap, and work as good or better than new.

That old Boker spearpoint was carried to death, however, the blades are still good (and very sharp) and they both snap like a gator's mouth:

I'm a flamenco and classical guitarist and I have to have meticulously rounded and smooth nails on my right hand. I use this cloth nail file set made by a shopowner here in NYC.

I just discovered that these files which come with grits up to 8000 work perfectly to literally wipe a patina away in about 30 seconds and leave a buffed surface that would be a mirror with just a little elbow grease. The cloth files completely wash out under a little warm water and last for years.
Check it out. This was after about 30 seconds with the 6000 and the same with 8000

When down and blue, I often turn to spiritual helps to get through barren periods. St. Francis has never let me down. But with dwindling hopes for a redbone clip blade Charlow, and no word on other new TC Barlows coming before February, I was down and blue. All Saints Day is past, but wait, what's this...

What help does St. Francis bring this weekend?

A gorgeous, saddle brown, single spey Day's Work Barlow, AND a custom TC pocket slip!!!

Thanks, Barry. Beautiful work, and a beautiful Barlow. You have redeemed the weekend. Gunstock Jack saves the day yet again! Thank you! Now I have the perfect option for the knife I want to carry, but don't want to abuse with my pocket full of keys, coins, and other knives...

Here's another look at the dogwood blossom on the reverse.

Now about that red soupbone clip Charlow...:D

Thank you again, Barry. Beautiful work!

(Acknowledgement to our old friend jon_slider for the inspiration to trust St. Francis with my prayers.)

Congratulations Scott, Barry done good again :)

Congrats and your not the only one who's been bit by the TC bug. Problem is the only cure is more Charlow's!!

Aw shucks. Thanks, everybody. I'll post some more pictures soon. In certain lights it looks positively purple, like a similar knife Pertinux was showin' off here about a year ago.

Full sun pics for details of color.

For some reason, it looks better in real life than in photos. It's calling to me. I may not be able to resist. It may end up a user.

I never imagined myself carrying sheepfoot or spey blades until Charlie commissioned these knives. Now I love 'em. Maybe someday I'll even carry a one armed razor Charlow!

I like the photos of the TC and Barry's Sheath. Great to see.

And Oh man do I like that All in a day Barlow!! Lovely, lovely knife.

Stunning fall colors in those leaves I mean BARLOWS! Beautiful photography with just great resolution and detail.

Love them TC Barlows

Well, you all have made a convert of me. I used to have no interest in sawcut covers, now I NEED a sawcut spey charlow.

Wonder if GEC will update their site with WIP pics of the Christmas charlows or if they will be a big surprise?

Gotta say I could go either way really, but its also fun to see the knives come together :)

Primble, absolutely beautiful. It made me smile.
