What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

I snapped this one today at lunch in Washington Sq Park. But it's not easy finding good sunlight when it's low in the sky and all those buildings are in the way. I'm gonna try to get one with the skyline in background one of these days. But that would mean going to Brooklyn...

That's nice of you to say but I can do better. And will...

Primble, man, there are some nice collections here but yours is perfectly curated. Seriously, the cream of the crop. This is only one primate's opinion, of course.

Yea man, you've got some good glass and the skills to use it.

I just looked at your "charlow farm". Hands down best collection I've seen. You've got two of the three I want. No saw cut soup bone sheepsfoot?

Great amazing Scot!! You make those knives look incredible, Rob!!

Thank you Charlie, I got lucky with good light, using my iPhone for that shot. Those two knives are incredible you know. ;):D

Thank you for the comments. I do feel fortunate to have found my TC Barlows, since I was way late to the release dates on many. Members here deserve credit for helping me, as well. There are others, such as Charlie, Knowtracks, and Evan, that have more complete collections. I have not tasted the soup yet. :D

It's not only about completeness in my mind. They're all undeniably fantastic but a few are just 💥.

For instance, from Primble's farm:

Those are gonna look mighty fine next to my rust red jack and eagerly awaited red soup bone when I track down my own one day 😍

After that, I'm sure I'll figure out some reason why I just need ....

Good luck on your quest - I used to feel the very same way - when I was lusting. :D

Well - maybe I still do! Anyone have some extra soup for Primble?:confused::eek::D

I do love me some soup bone (and I'm very excited for the red ones coming down the line), but I still think sawcut bone (like the amber ones you pictured above, Rob) are my favorite!

Two two bone TC's that I have left:

A copperhead PPP, and a inside-out sawcut bone (the pre-cursor to soup bone).

Two fine ones to be left with Dan. I love the copperhead spearpoint - and the inside out. If I remember correctly, the inside out was used until Barry came up with soup bone??

:eek::thumbup::thumbup::D

Maybe you could put up another pic of that copperhead in your double post Dan. ;)

Seriously, man. The last time I remember jonesing this hard for a pocket knife was my lefty small sebenza millennium classic - they're made with my initials engraved in the handle - MM!! And a lefty can't really do any better than that knife. One of only three modern knives I own.

And I don't think we lust for these, it's much more accurate that we're all completely strung out on pocket knives and chasing the charlow dragon!!! 😆

I agree Dan, soup bone is super killer, but my favorite cover for a tradiational is sawcut bone. Love that copperhead PPP man!

Just thought I'd post up my whole collection since I added a couple recently :)

Man, do I like those clip/spay Day's works! Excellent collection, Jon!

The only spay bladed barlow in my collection is this one:

Nice man. Love that soup bone spey and sheepsfoot.

Do you ever look at your rust red sawcut jack and think to yourself, "only 27 other people in the world have the pleasure of using one of these pieces of history and edged perfection."

It really focuses my mind on just how lucky I am to be a human being on Earth slicing an apple in the sunshine.

I love this picture-- a thoughtful and well-chosen selection.
