What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Thanks guys, here's to hoping for BIG treasure this weekend! :D I know it'll be a great time of meeting some old friends and making some new ones too. I see at least 5 in that container I would love to own!

Obsessive collector that I am, I have agonized, but decided to sell some of my "backup" collection and a few other stragglers. I am toting this container to the Oregon Knife Show!*

I hope it brings a few people who are on the fence to the greatest knife show in the west!! 360 tables this year! Not too shabby!!
Most of the year, I sit in envy of all the shows that occur east of the Mississippi, but this coming weekend is the West Coast's moment in the sun!
Come and ogle and CF some fine old antiques, and maybe a few TCs!!!!

*Please don't flood me with messages! For now, these are going to the show!!

Somebody first in the door is going to be very happy. Wish you would do a run of the dead skunk acrylic. Enjoy folks!

That's a nice box of tubes that's going to make a lot of folks happy. Spread those TC's around! Have a great time at the show Charlie. 😃

I look back in the beginning and think now of the TC's that I gifted and now are absolute hunted treasures - the fact that the TC thing has grown astronomically - and those knives I wont be able to ever get again- but I dont regret that one bit - in fact appreciate the fact that that knife in the hands of their owners means hopefully more to them now than it did when gifted - I know I most certainly appreciate the knives I have been gifted- new and old - and they mean very much a great deal to me.

A thoughtful and eloquent post my friend. The knives I've been gifted certainly mean more to me than any others, and the Clip-point ebony Charlow you gave me in Sheffield could not possibly mean more to me than it did then Duncan, you're a great pal

I don't think any of us - maybe not even Charlie - had any idea that this thread would run like it has :)

360 Tables!! Wow, Charlie, that's pretty incredible. Hope you have a great show

It's getting closer now! Just a little plane hopping and I'll be there! Barlows, old and new, who cares, just to be able to see, touch and slobber over them is enough for me,,,,almost!:D
Perry

Color me peanut butter and jealous, Perry! :grumpy:

I have a pretty good little excuse for not being able to make it, though. :D

Yes you do, Phil,,,, a little bambino coming! I'll bet he's gonna like some peanut butter!
Lol,,,you might need to bring more than one, Charlie!:D

Thanks Scott! Hopefully the Friday members and dealers day won't clean them out before I get there on Saturday. :hopelessness: I wish you were coming too, would be just that much more fun!

Thanks guys. His due date was today but he popped out a week early.

One week old and he's already got a good start on his TC collection! :D:thumbup:

It took all my inner-strength reserves not to PM you Charlie!! :D But I didn't, and I feel that my character is growing. Though it's a painful experience. :D

You and Bill have done the traditional community yeoman service in bringing back an under-appreciated pattern and making it exceptional--much better than the Barlows in history that were not made with this same loving attention to details. You have outdone the little Barlow mesters of old and I'm hard-pressed to think of another pattern where that holds true. You have helped made today the true golden age of traditional knives and knife making that it is. Thanks for your vision, risk and hard work.

Outstanding, Sarah!! Others have focused on your son's talent, I'll call attention to his obvious hard work and developing that talent!! He really captured the spirit of Charlie's Barlow and Washington Jack. That could only come with serious hard work and study. What a great tribute to you, to him, and by extension to Charlie and Bill. Please give him all our compliments!!

You promise not to hide that Skunk tube from me if I get my supersonic jet tickets Charlie ???:confused::confused::D

They (upstart airline agency) promised me their re-conditioned F4 Phantom jet would get me there BEFORE Perry. ;)

Buying new (and fast) tennis shoes too. ;);)

What a great photo! Lucky boy! I really like the idea of the appreciation of knives being passed on to the next generation.
