What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Im sure you guys are sick of seeing all my posts today but its always a learning curve for me to get decent pics of my knives. Rusty as I'm getting older, you might say:roll eyes:
Bet you can't tell which one is my favorite.

Another photo of the haul

Here's some more TC Barlow love on pics! My grandfather was in WW1 and fought in France right up till the end of the war.
I am fortunate to have known him and own many of the artifacts from that time in his life. His uniform/tunic and many pictures and this very special Camp Travis Infantry book that he got after completing boot camp there in Texas, in 1917.
Oh, I am also named after him,,,quite an honor, he taught me many things like hunting, fishing, horse riding and how to play a mean game of checkers.
Forgot to show off my pocket slip Barry made for me and brought to the show in Eugene.

I've really enjoyed seeing these Barlows from Eugene! I especially love the backdrops for these photos! Sweet pocket slip there, Perry!

I'm always bad mouthin' acrylic. I have a very strong preference for Micarta and more "natural" materials. But its really just that I've never had the chance at a special knife like that. I don't know if it would look as nice on any other knife, but that is a special TC!

Thank you Phil my friend! Here's a couple more, one of my dad and his class mates in school photo and just a couple working men probably looking for more work.

One more, just an old photo of some kid and his dog.

I love these old comic covers notice the title "people searching for peace of mind through PSYCHOANALYSIS". Heck I search for peace of mind through more Tom's Choice Barlows! HA HA. Lloyd

Well thank you AL! Glad it conjured up those precious memories for ya. That's pretty much what it does for me too.
LOL, that's what we all do in this ward, I mean Barlow thread, Lloyd!
Here's a few more that my wife thought might be neat to add.
Checkers anyone?

These are for Phil and anyone else that loves the Soup!

I'm enjoying the backgrounds as much as the knives!

Thanks, Charlie & Perry... I might have had 3 Barlows total before Charlie lit the fire with the TC Barlows, plus the many pictures of vintage Barlows he's shown us. It has been fun hunting for them and a pleasure owning them.

I never owned one Barlow before the TCs. I had just never seen one that nice until Charlie started this renaissance of the Barlow!

While I was doing some Barlow picture-taking, a creative thought hit me... hey, let's see if I can get the mandala optical illusion effect... you know, when you focus your eyes on the Daddy Barlows at the centerpoint and then move your head closer to the screen and the outter Barlows start to spin?

See it?

Here's a few more shots of family stuff with TCs. Notice in the Soup pic, my grandfather's tunic from WW1 has a company logo that's eerily close to the TC logo! Man, what are the odds??

Then a photo of my father while on leave in Tyler, Texas in 1943, boy do I wish he had kept that Army issue Harley just a bit longer!

And last is a cover of a book that shows and tells of the history of the Industrial age.

This has been a great couple of weeks for traditional knives and their enthusiasts. I haven't added a Barlow to my collection, but I did manage to find a knife or two to console myself. Thanks for the entertaining photos, fellas!

I just wanted to say a BIG thank you to the inimitable Dave "Knowtracks". As most of you already know, Dave is an exceptional individual. Dave was kind enough to act as my proxy and grab a few Barlows for me at the recent OKCA knife show, because I was unable to attend. Because of his efforts, I am now the proud owner of this gorgeous third cut stag Barlow. Thank you Dave!!

And of course, a big thanks goes out to Charlie too! The TC is truly a special knife. As I sit here with other #15 boys knives and barlows in front of me, there is just something about the TC, unlike other knives, that has a life and a soul to them. I'm not trying to sound corny or get brownie points here, it really is the truth. Thanks for taking the time to write a quick note on one of my tubes.

Exciting times in the Barlow thread lately. Lots of nice bounty and great pictures. I have enjoyed seeing your harvests.:thumbup::D

Waynorth - any chance of you releasing some hints or time frames, about what might be in the Charlow pipeline?:confused:

Some of us need to refill our piggy banks, ya know.:D

I have been wondering this myself.

C'mon Rob! You know better than to rush the anticipation! Hold your horses! ;)

Well - I might have been rushing it to ask for hints of what is in the pipeline, but, he has told us a time frame for the next run well in advance before. ;);):D

He knows how to handle us horsies. :)

Charlie knows how to handle his lasso, that's for sure!

You know how it goes with betting on horses though, you should always have a stash laying in wait for the next big race!

I agree with you Rob, very nice variation in that tan Jigbone TC! I would be proud to own that one.

I'm not much of a barlow guy, but do have a soft spot for IXL, and Punches, so this found its way home:

I'm not familiar with Barlows with punches, tried a search on this thread and saw no Wostenholm with punches. Great firm walk and talk, thick hand filling sawcut bone scales. This one may help me appreciate barlows more. Or make great trade fodder down the road. Either way I'm really glad it came my way. It's a great specimen.
