What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Nice collection Drew

BTW isn't there a dedicated thread to talk about those darn cap-lifter knives?! :grumpy:

5) Red and Green: Christmas come early, or gang symbols?

There's a lot going on here. :D

There sure is - the kid is the latest recruit for the Australian Test cricket team with his brand new 'baggy green' cap https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baggy_green awarded on their first selection for the Aussie national team.
God knows the current lot are so crap the Captain retired after their historic loss of the 'Ashes' Test series and the national selectors will be trawling the elementary schools looking for replacements. I'll get flamed* here for sure from my fellow Aussies but I always enjoy the Aussies cricketer's smugness getting wiped for a season or two - it makes for better cricket in the long term.

Very cool! And when was that run made? A few years back or more recently (the spear with the long pull)? Thanks!

And a comparison between my only TC's for now, one of the first runs made in 2012 in Antique Amber Sawcut and the Ancient for sendcakeplease
You can see the exceptional difference in scaling between the two :)

Not me mate, I have about as much interest in cricket as I have in hitting my head with a tea-tray! :D

Hi Philllll

Mate - lovely pair of TC's. Ok I'm going to ask- I haven't been able to join in as much lately - and I have literally missed out on a good 70 percent if what's going on and also what's available. So what is the singular TC etch on the blade to the right Sir- is it was that a special run?

The story of the Soup bones:
I arrived at GEC to set up my table for the Rendezvous, and Bill handed me a box of knives!
He mumbled something about having a little trouble with these knives. Imagine my surprise when I saw 30 some soup bones in there. I thought I was too late to add soup to my order a couple of months ago!! There were 4 variations, and before I could stuff more then a couple into my pockets, and other hiding places, they were flying out the door!! Like a flock of crows!!
The list is in a box that I shipped to myself, but there were a few of each; Ancients, Pop Scouts, New Days with one and two blades!
Duncan, some of them had that singular TC etch!!
There were none left to send to dealers so attendees lucked out on the surprise. No-one was more surprised than me!!
BTW, the Ancient "buttons" were just to hand out at the Rendezvous, so there are none in the tubes.

The beerlow tubes are also marked with the ominous message, "CNRFCL"

I think next time you should do a yellow soup bone Charlie. :) But if you do and I can't get my hands on one then you'll be responsible for making a grown man cry lol.

You take my words right out of my mouth .
I did not reply before as
1) wanted to remain polite and friendly with our Aussie friends :o
2) being not English, I care not to interfere into Commonwealth affairs
BUT, I can't prevent from remembering my most boring days when invited to watch a cricket match, forgot the teams since. I slept for the day while I could have been in Gus Kuhn's shop or at Pride & Clark's. Worse, my friend's team lost, so the stop at the pub was shortened and I did not hear the bell!
I definitely prefer when they are 15 playing. :D
